Grizzly Bear Attacks School Children

Nah....C1 minimum.

Oh, but that's right, you can't have the semi-auto version of your own former service rifle now.

Well, I think you might still be able to have one, just not shoot it.

If you think you can stop a bear with a .223, I suggest your family take out extra life insurance on you.

There were no Canadian restrictions stopping that.

So what's the point?

On average there are roughly 6 reported attacks by bears resulting in injuries each year in Alaska,
Liar.
Since 2020 Canada has prohibited the ownership of over 2500 different firearms.
As of March 2025 Canada has prohibited the ownership of 179 different models of firearms.....and is giving people amnesty until March 1 2026 to turn them in.

Quick facts

  • On May 1, 2020, the Government of Canada prohibited approximately 1,500 makes and models of assault-style firearms and their variants.

  • On December 5, 2024, the Government of Canada prohibited an additional 324 makes and models of assault-style firearms.

  • Today, an additional 179 makes and models of firearms have been prohibited.

  • With the prohibition announced today, there is a total of over 2,500 firearms prohibited since 2020.

And none of those weapons would be useful in stopping a bear attack.

Those type of weapons were designed and intended to kill people sized targets. And would be of little use against an 800 lb bear charge.

You are just ignorant I guess. I suggest you quit while you are behind. 😐

Your own Canadian Rangers uses a Sako-built rifle chambered in 7.62 Nato.....Before that the Longbranch SMLE #4 in .303.

Their main use is for bear defense in the Artic region when they are out and about.

Now they are having issues with them.....Sigh, they should have not surplused off all the excellent Longbranch #4s.

Bullshit.
If those guns are scary enough for them to ban them....they can kill bears.

The SKS—a semi-automatic rifle chambered in 7.62×39mm—does not meet the “assault-style” criteria outlined in the ban, which targets firearms with: Pistol grips, folding stocks, or detachable magazines exceeding 5 rounds.

SKS NOT Banned in Canada's March 2025 Firearms Prohibition

I already knew that but SKS mags cannot exceed five rounds.

Bella Coola is pretty remote. We took a ferry for hours from Port Hardy on Vancouver Island to reach it when I visited 20 years ago.
Thanks, I was about to ask if this was a common place where people camped, hiked or whatever. Also curious if this was a yearly field trip for schools.

I wouldn't be surprised that it was within walking distance of the populated area of the village, but IDK for sure. I don't imagine Bella Coola has grown much since my visit.

Well you fell for another lie. That Canada restricts guns that could be used against bears

The government came out with a list of banned guns after the 2020 Nova Scotia Mass murders. They wanted people to turn them in and five years later I don't think anyone's turned in a gun. The killer committed the murders with guns he bought illegally.

Sure, go ahead and focus on BS while a bunch of school children were mauled by a bear when a simple armed overwatch could have prevented or at least helped mitigate the situation.

What were the adults in charge up there thinking? :eusa_wall:

I don't know the lawsuit laws up in Canada but the adults involved need to be sued no end for their shortsightedness.

Indeed, even charged criminally for professional maleficence.

The adults were teachers and carried bear spray and bangers. If it was such a danger everyone in that area would carry guns. They don't carry guns because bear attacks are seldom and random. That may change now. There probably won't be any lawsuits

Yes they did however as far as I know no one has turned in a gun. This is why they banned those guns. The guns used in these murders were bought illegally.

Bella Coola is a town of about 2000 people located in the middle of nowhere. It's mostly an Indigenous community and that means most of them own guns. Schools have field trips all the time now.

Big difference in knock down power between the short round 7.62 x 39 and the 7.62 x 51 NATO round too. I know you already knew that, but IDK about or postal friend.
Maybe you didn't notice. Canada doesn't place restrictions on weapons you can use to hunt, or defend yourself against the animals in the Canadian wilderness.
You can just as easily purchase a .458 or .470 as you could a .22LR

Yeah and that SKS would be about as useful against a grizzly as a .22 short.
