What stance is trump taking today in his second term, what was his original stance during first term, and what threats has trump made to Canada, anyhow will this play out.
The Bridge is going through final inspection(s).

Watch the video and think about the consequences of trump blocking the traffic.

Current status of the Gordie Howe Bridge

The Gordie Howe International Bridge is essentially finished but not fully open yet.

  • Construction: Completed
  • Phase now: Testing, inspections, and final commissioning
  • Expected opening: 2026 (timing still somewhat uncertain)
  • Function: A major new crossing between Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario, meant to boost trade and reduce congestion
Key facts:

  • Funded almost entirely by Canada (about $4–5 billion)
  • Ownership is shared between Canada and the state of Michigan
  • Designed as a “once-in-a-generation” trade corridor upgrade

⚠️ What Trump did

In February 2026, Donald Trump escalated things:

  • Publicly threatened to block or delay the bridge opening
  • Claimed the U.S. was being treated unfairly
  • Demanded:
    • Compensation from Canada
    • Potential U.S. ownership stake (“maybe half”)
Important context:

  • It’s unclear he actually has the legal authority to stop the opening
  • His comments triggered criticism from U.S. and Canadian officials
  • The move is widely seen as tied to broader U.S.–Canada trade tensions

🇨🇦 What Carney did

Mark Carney responded quickly:

  • Held a direct call with Trump to defuse the situation
  • Reiterated:
    • Canada paid for the bridge
    • Ownership is shared with Michigan
    • The project includes U.S. labor and materials
  • Described the conversation as productive/positive
  • Is pushing to keep the project on track through diplomacy

🧠 Behind-the-scenes politics

There’s a deeper layer beyond just rhetoric:

  • The bridge competes with the privately owned
    Ambassador Bridge
  • That bridge’s owner, Matthew Moroun,
    reportedly:
    • Lobbied Trump’s administration
    • Donated $1 million to a Trump-aligned PAC shortly before the threat
  • This has triggered:
    • Congressional scrutiny/investigations
    • Concerns about political influence and competition

🧾 Bottom line

  • The bridge itself is basically ready to open
  • The main obstacle right now is political—not construction-related
  • Carney is trying to keep it on track diplomatically
  • Trump is using it as leverage in broader trade and political disputes

Trump ***** up everything he is in direct control of. He's been fortunate in his life there are educated adults following him who keep his real estate deals on track, but his direct control over these things have almost always led to failure at some point. His ignorance of how things actually work helped him financially.

As President, he has far greater control over outcomes, and his ability to **** things up has increased ten fold.

You might be right.

Harris on the other hand slept her way to something and when it came time to stand on her own, she failed.

She was chosen as VP ONLY because Biden, in his weak little mind, needed a black woman in that spot.

If he really needed someone black and female, there were much better and more qualified choices.

She never made a key decision in her life (other than who she'd blow).

When she did her first interview (finally), it was a softball 19 minute CNN play but she still needed a service animal present (a role played by Tim Walz).

Which is only to say......

I don't care what Trump does.....he was always a better choice than Harris.

At least with Trump we know whose running the show. In the case of Harris, you know who WON'T be running the show.
