Presidents down through the years have made prisoner exchanges for free soldiers at the end of a war. It is their responsibility. If he deserted, he should be court marshaled. That is not the issue.

Now that he has been freed using the same method that John McCainwas freed after the Vienam war, the GOP turned their heads and uses their other face to critisize Obama for making this deal to free the very same person that they had said:

John McCain (R-AZ) told CNN’s Anderson Cooper in February that he “would be inclined to support” “an exchange of prisoners for our American fighting man,” like the one Taliban officials had offered in 2012. He has since labeled Obama’s deal “ill-founded” and a “mistake.”
