A recent profile of Republican candidate Bo Hines evokes the Biblical scene of punishment and shame, minus the stones. In a report from Bryan Anderson of WRAL, Hines said he wants victims of rape and incest seeking abortion to go through “a community-level review process outside the jurisdiction of the federal government.”

Madison Cawthorn 2.0. This sounds like a modern day Inquisition and why do these guys keep popping up in North Carolina?

See, community control of abortion is "democracy," and democracy is a threat to our democracy....

Federal law dictated by 9 unelected judges at the federal level is the ONLY way to save duhmobcracy.

A 2004, the Guttmacher Institute study anonymously surveyed 1,209 post-abortive women from nine different abortion clinics across the country. Of the women surveyed, 957 provided a main reason for having an abortion. Of those 957 women, less than 0.5% of the abortions occurred because of rape. That equates to almost 5 women out of 957, who had an abortion because they were raped.

Now let's go to the state of Florida: The state of Florida records a reason for every abortion that occurs within its borders every year. In 2020, there were 74,868 abortions in Florida. 0.15% of those abortions were performed because the woman was raped, or roughly 112. Also out of those 74,868 abortions in Florida, 0.01 of those abortions were performed because of incest, or a total of 7.

U.S. Abortion Statistics

Now what can we determine from these statistics? I'm not sure, but Floridians do like their like rape, but they don't seem to boink their sisters, moms, and cousins as much as everyone thinks they do. I always thought the latter number would be higher than that.

thank you for being civil. thank you for being civil

I have a friend who moved to North Carolina, and he tells me that the locals hate Yankees and all the people who have moved there and pushed their electorate more blue. Into that stew you get people like Cawthorn, Hines, Mark Meadows, and other extremists who work overtime to get the red hatters into a foaming and frothing frenzy.

How incredibly regressive…can’t believe people are running on this crap.

The Republican dystopia…

Pennsylvania Senate candidate Mehmet Oz offered a similar approach last month, describing abortion as a decision between “women, doctors, [and] local political leaders.” In trying to appeal to moderates, hardline Republicans like Hines and Oz are suggesting something that in some cases may be worse than an absolute ban. They want people whose bodies have been violated and attacked to then turn around and be violated and attacked again by rehashing their attack. Then they still might be denied the procedure.

I'm more of a Colonial-era Republican, if there is such a thing. We don't burn witches, we throw 'em in a pond: If they float, they're witches. If they sink, they're not witches. :04:
