Gene Hackman is dead. I aways liked him as an actor. He was great in the French connection and fantastic in Unforgiven. He was ninety-five. He lived with his wife for many years in a kind of voluntary isolation. I think I know what happened before he and his wife were found by maintenance workers. He had a heart issue, and it likely took him. His wife, who had her own health issues, found him and decided that though he was only one person in the world, he was world to her. She overdosed to join him in the exit. I am not sure what took the dog. Maybe it got hungry and got into those pills.
This happens more than you know.

I for some reason did not realize he was that old. Enjoyed all of his stuff. RIP Gene.

Likely carbon monoxide poisoning.

The dog was in a cage. It had no chance.

The other two dogs, which were free, were found alive

Poor dog starved to death. The other dogs were outside. If the other dogs were inside, and they were roaming amongst the departed, it's possible those two became a food source.

Holy hell - it is now reported that Gene Hackman died of heart failure - wait for it - a week after his wife died of Hantavirus.
That even though his state of health was terrible, he was conscious and able to care for himself during this week.
Wow. His state of mental health, obviously not well.

Agree with the other poster, I didn’t realize he was that old either, obviously sadly his wife passed. His last week probably wasn’t the best along with the dog. RIP.

Hopefully he spent much of that last week sleeping

Dont we wish that happened. It turns out to be much darker than we previously thought. She died of Hantavirus a week before he did. He had severe heart disease and dementia. I suspect that he died from starvation or thirst after she was no longer alive to take care of him..

Gene Hackman’s death raises some interesting thoughts about our society. Some of us live for long time particularly if alcohol and drugs don’t play a role in how we choose to live. There does not seem to be evidence of bad health practices in Hackman’s life although he came from a time when cigarette smoking was prevalent. If he smoked early on he likely quit decades ago like a lot of people today. People just get old. We are not designed to stay perfect in health and mind forever. No one leaves here alive.

Hackman had three children, and he struggled as an actor in the beginning. But there is nothing to suggest a bad relationship there. He was divorced after thirty years from his first wife, Faye Maltese, who died many years ago. He married Betsy Arakawa in 1991 when she was thirty-two and he was sixty-one. He was with her for thirty-four years. She had probably become his nurse as well as his wife.

She was probably the main reason he stayed alive and reasonably healthy at such an advanced age. But things happened, and Arakawa got sick from a virus that acted quickly taking her life. Hackman had health issues including Alzheimer’s. Hackman and his wife liked the isolation of their New Mexico home, so no one was checking on them regularly.

No one is to blame for those deaths.

And that makes sense, because she was not elderly and normally could care for him easily, getting help if needed. It was totally unexpected that she would get sick and die that quickly. Maybe she thought it was something she would quickly get over and that's why she didn't get help.
