Apparently China is out soliciting other countries to join hands with them in standing up to and combating Trump's tariffs. China went to Australia and solicited them to join hands with them in opposing the USA's tariffs but Australia told them to get stuffed, that in effect, Australia would not be holding China's hand and that they would be dealing with it on their own. This has in effect left China out in the cold with Xi twisting in the wind as virtually the only country left trying to fight negotiating with Trump on a new trade deal. This leaves China in something of a bind as now countries the world over seek ways of becoming less dependent on China for things.

China can not afford to deal on lower tariffs. First off they would loose face which is a very bad thing for them. Second they would be working with a more level playing field which means they would loose money, power and the ability to steal intellectual property with impunity. All of which would put the ruling class in a very bad position.

I am quite certain that behind the scenes, the US is pressuring the entire world to tariff China. You keep seeing pundits say "we dont even know what Trump wants from these countries". He wants a world unified tariff war on China.

Could be. China is showing a weak hand. They are becoming unpopular. In the end, Trump is going to win this and get more flat trade around the planet which benefits the USA and that benefit can only come at China's expense.
