The Glock 26 was introduced in 1995 alongside the Glock 27. These were sub-compact pistols with 3.43 inch barrels chambered for 9x19mm (the 26) and .40 S&W (the 27). These were Glock's first foray into. the subcompact market, and they offered a compelling package. These were small, lighter than the all-metal options available at the time, had the simple operation of the other Glock pistols, and magazine compatibility with other Glocks. Introduced just after the magazine limitations of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, they also offered the combination of the smallest pistol and largest magazine (10+1 in 9mm and 9+1 in .40) under the new restrictions.

The first several years of production were basically Generation 2.5 in overall Glock terminology; they had finger grooves without and texturing. They also had three-pin frames to withstand the snappier recoil of their small size and a new dual recoil spring was developed for them. Later, they would be offered in the Gen 3, 4, and 5 configurations.

Herr Glock himself carried one. I bought one in the mid-90's and have always had at least one. They take all Glock double stack 9mm magazines all the way up to the 33 round happy sticks. ;)

My brother has one of those baby Glocks. After a few rounds, it's brutal shooting the darned thing.

I'll bet it's the G-27 in .40S&W. They are snappy. The G-26 in 9mm Luger is a pussycat to shoot all day.

No, it's in 9mm. I shot a couple mags through it a few years ago. The grip was too small and the trigger ate up my index finger.

I believe you. I've had a quite different experience.

I guess it's all what we're used to. I've loaded up 124 and 147 grain 9mm to about the maximum velocity I could safely get, and usually shoot with a pair of Mechanix M-Pact gloves on. Even with my G19, that Glock trigger leaves my index finger sore after 70 or 80 rounds. But those baby Glocks are nice for something you just want to carry in a pocket holster. The one my brother has was bought for his wife, but she has trouble pulling the slide back. I tell them she shouldn't have to rack the slide, there should already be one in the chamber. But they live in Illinois, so....

I can see where hot handloads would be uncomfortable. With factory ammo, the G26 is not bad at all.
