Giant comet may collide with Earth late October

Thing I don't get about comets - if they are the result of the Big Bang - yet are losing a percentage of their 'matter' (their tails), how can they still BE here "Hundreds of Millions" of years after the fact?

There's always the exploded planet hypothesis. According to this, the asteroid field, as well as many comets, are the remains of a large planet which once orbited between Jupiter and Mars, and exploded in the recent past (recent in geologic terms). This would also explain Mars's odd orbit, it's bulged shape, it's sudden loss of atmosphere, and the fact that one half of it's surface appears to have a different composition than the rest. These would all be what you'd expect to see on a former moon that was hit by a big explosion.

Science have always been wrong on more than one level.

This is obviously the fault of the Bush administration and is the result of global warming and the Religious Right's intolerance. If the Democrats win the House and Senate back next month, the first thing Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will do is launch an investigation into how the Bush White House was asleep at the wheel and could have prevented this from happening.

We obviously have provoked the comet into heading towards us with our aggressive incursion into Iraq.

Well, KT, there may be a chance you'll be dead, along with some of the others of us here on this board :p, so it won't matter then, will it?

Or you'll get your money back.

LOL. Money back?

The asteroid won't destroy earth but more likely just hit an uninhabital place.

I read that in an Enquirer like magazine, only it specializes in end of time predictions. Nov 11 is another dooms day too. Sucks cause my birthday is on the 13th of November!

Do you mean John Horton Conway's Doomsday theory?
