Germany to cut Ukraine military aid in half

Sure, I was just joking.

By the way: If that shit continues, you no longer need a hostile army:
He, nothing special. Just two neighbours couldn't find enough words to resolve their disagreements.

I also feel like throwing grenades sometimes. But I got none. They don´t grow on the trees.

Seriously, the incidents are mounting. Soldiers get attacked, recruitment officers get attacked, soldier cemeteries get desecrated.

Maybe I read not thoroughly enough, but the article didn't say it was a serviceman involved.

But yes, incidents are mounting. Especially Odesa, Zakarpatie. It is the places where draft centers are well known for their methods. Forced mobilization has another side of a coin.

This is how the Kyiv nazis transport military equipment across the border in civilian trucks.
If they start destroying them, there will be wild cries that the russians are shooting at civilian targets.

Come on, man! It's a civilian tank!

It is not normal though.

On July 18, 2024, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine allowed the government to suspend payments on the colossal state debt, which was formed during the entire period of receiving reimbursable aid from the West in the form of loans. In fact, Ukrainian MPs allowed their authorities simply not to repay Western money, but only until October 1, 2024. This was reported by a member of the Ukrainian Parliament Yaroslav Zheleznyak in social networks.

At the same time, according to Zheleznyak, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) allegedly “routinely” approved such Ukrainian initiatives leading to Kiev not returning multimillion-dollar tranches of aid from the West. Who would have doubted that Ukraine would give back this money (sarcasm mode off)?

It is either this or bankruptcy. You should provide the context.

Germany is phasing out financial aid for Ukraine. While the thread´s news remain valid, the military aid für Ukraine will be cut by 90 % by 2027.
Non-military aid to Ukraine is cut by 100 % now. Germany says again Ukraine will get money via the EU´s 50 billion. There are 300 billion of Russian money that the EU grabbed but it is actually not clear whether it can be used.

"The current budget planning of the German federal government does not provide for the allocation of new funds to support Ukraine, the opposition says that financial and therefore military support for Kyiv is frozen.

Additional applications from the German Ministry of Defense for military aid to Ukraine will no longer be approved at the request of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, although already approved materials continue to be supplied in most cases.

The reason for this is austerity measures on the part of the chancellery and the Ministry of Finance. Finance Minister Christian Lindner conveyed the corresponding request in a letter to Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on August 5.

The publication notes that the ban is already in place and the situation for Ukraine may also worsen soon, as the planned military support is planned to be almost halved next year, and then reduced to less than a tenth of the current amount in 2027.

From the point of view of the Ministry of Finance, however, things look different. Lindner's letter of August 5, which is in the possession of the FAS, shows that he does not expect a sudden reduction in funds for Ukraine. However, the money will now come not from the federal budget, but from the frozen assets of the Russian central bank.

Ukraine's allies confiscated about $300 billion after a large-scale attack by the Russian Federation, and the G7 countries at their summit in Italy decided to use the proceeds from this money to finance a $50 billion loan for Kyiv. Lindner now expects Ukraine to use the money to "cover a significant portion of its military needs."

If this had happened, German money would not have been needed for a while. However, the decision of the G7 countries is still far from being implemented and is legally contradictory. International negotiations are underway, and no one at any of the federal agencies FAS spoke to knows how many months it will take before the money finally arrives.

One of the interlocutors in the German government said that the point has been reached beyond which Germany can no longer make any promises to Ukraine. This would be the fulfillment of the election demand of the Alternative for Germany, the party of "Putin's friend" Sarah Wagenknecht and the head of the Saxon CDU Michael Kretschmer to stop supporting Ukraine with weapons as soon as possible.

This is confirmed by the budget committee of the Bundestag: currently, "new orders for Ukraine are not placed, as they are no longer funded." Ingo Gedehens, a budget politician from the opposition CDU, agrees: "From day to day, Olaf Scholz and his coalition are freezing financial and therefore military support for Ukraine."

FAS observations in the war zone illustrate the impact of the continued lack of support from Germany. Some German guns on the front line have so few parts and ammunition that they can only fire three or four shots a day. The Panzerhaubitze 2000's high rate of fire, one of its greatest advantages, cannot be exploited. Due to the lack of special ammunition, it cannot develop its long firing range. Since spare parts are also in short supply, individual copies of the Leopard 1A5 howitzer or main battle tank are repeatedly dismantled for spare parts to keep others running.

According to several sources, the ban on additional funding for military aid to Ukraine has led to a "real dispute" in the federal government. The office wants to suspend funding, but the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy disagree. There are different opinions about the role of the Ministry of Finance. Some say that it is on the side of the Chancellor, others deny that it is only out of duty to indicate that there is no more money for new orders.

The day before, it became known that the leaders of the government coalition in Germany had reached a final compromise on the budget for 2025.

Both the old and the new draft envisage that military aid to Ukraine will be cut by about half – from 8 to 4 billion euros."
