If you choose to overstay, then you open yourself to deportation.
There is no danger if you follow the law.
U.S. visitors to Germany follow different ruling when traveling to Germany as follows:

U.S. citizens can stay in Germany (and the broader Schengen Area) for up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a visa for tourism, business, or transit. This 90-day allowance is for the total, cumulative time spent in Schengen countries, not per country. Starting in 2025, U.S. citizens will need an ETIAS travel authorization to enter.​

The problem for Germans now: We will have to pay the costs when we ignore this warning and the German government is forced to help because of a conflict between the strange organisation ICE and the citizens of the USA. Normally in such a situation travellers have to pay an additional insurance and/or travel companies are voluntarily discontinuing some or even all of their offers because they do not want to be caught up in negative criticism under any circumstances and fear liability issues. On the other side lost your currency 15% in the last year if I'm well informed - what would make it more easy to travel to the USA. And again on the other hand, of course, there are the super-stupid insults directed at Germany by the highest and most dishonorable representatives of the USA, who apparently don't have the slightest idea about German history and reality, and who are not exactly opposed to anyone wanting to visit the German states of America at all.

Germany (and you) may be overreacting a bit. America hasn't become "the killing fields" (yet). The Good killing is a grey area. Had I been the agent, I would have stepped to the right (as the car approached) and would have been just fine but there's room for interpretation and a case can be made that the agent killed in self defense. A bit of a stretch but doable.
