Georgia Republican Reintroducing Bill to Make Blocking Highways in Protest a Federal Crime

3 Feb 2025 ~~ By Mike LaChance

Just a few days ago, anti-ICE protesters shut down a major highway in Los Angeles because they object to deportations.
The First Amendment guarantees the right to free speech and protests, but not walking out onto highways and restricting the movement of other people. Sometime in recent years, the left decided that it liked this tactic and they use it all the time.
Now, Republican Rep. Mike Collins of Georgia is planning to reintroduce a bill that would make this a federal crime. This is long overdue.

From Collins’ House site:
Collins to Introduce House Companion Bill to Criminalize Intentional Obstruction of Interstate Highways
Today, Representative Mike Collins (R-Ga.) announced that he will introduce the House Companion to S. 192, the Safe Passage on Interstates Act, legislation that would make the intentional obstruction of interstate highways illegal.
The bill was first introduced in the Senate by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) on January 31, 2023.

Commentary:
Americans don't want to see Bridges and roads blocked by protesters. It's civil disobedience gone too far. people get hurt.
Blocking highways is no different than interfering directly with a cop, ambulance worker, or fireman in the pursuit of their duties. Being part of a mob doesn’t give one the green light to commit a crime.
Meanwhile Neo-Marxist Democrats use it as insurrection. Just how many LEO's have to get hurt by these crowds. Where's those high-tech devices to disperse crowds that the Army supposed;y has created?
"Illegally Detaining" someone is also known as kidnapping(a felony). In riot conditions, with mass criminals breaking multiple Federal and State Laws an unbiased Judge/Jury would say it was self defense and those involved in the riot should all be charged with murder instead. Case law says if someone is killed during the commission of a crime then those involved in the crime can be charged?
The FBI was able to locate and arrest everyone in DC on Jan 6th. So all these protesters should be arrested very quickly. If they are here illegally, on a visa, DACA, etc they should be deported immediately along with a their families and all relatives. If they are citizens mandatory 2 years in prison...

This is long overdue. When free speech or acts of free speech infringes on other peoples’ rights, it is no longer free speech. Walking up to a table of people at a restaurant and intimidating them with a “Black Lives Matter” mantra is not free speech.

Your free speech should not impede my rights.

The Bill focused on highways is a start.

Another useless, bullshit bill.
This is tiresome. You may find that if drivers get irate and run over these protestors that many people will not care. There is nothing worse than messing with drivers who are coming home from work and/or are stressed out. If this was the other side doing it, we know what Prog opinions would be. With Trump you are seeing your own medicine used against you. And it does not taste good from Prog reactions.

Another useless, bullshit bill.
You call it a useless bill until your ass is stuck on a highway trying to get to a critical job event, trying to get to a daycare to pick up a child, or trying to get a loved one to medical care.

I don’t give a flying fuck what the people are protesting whether it is a bullshit protest to have the right to break immigration laws or a conservative protest pushing prayer in school…… protests cannot impede on the rights of others.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but how has this matter been dealt with so far as in what can be done right now to those who protest in the streets? It may not be a federal crime right now, but is it currently labeled a crime at all?

God bless you always!!!

It's similar to flag burning. If that bill becomes law, you won't be able to drive anywhere anymore.

Ridiculous that we should let protesters do this.
