White House Lightning Strike Death Toll Rises To 3 - Videos from The Weather Channel

Four people have life-threatening injuries after they were apparently struck by lightning near the White House in Washington, D.C., Thursday evening, fire officials said.

U.S. Secret Service and U.S. Park Police officers rushed to help the two women and two men when they saw lightning strike, D.C. Fire and EMS Public Information Officer Vito Maggiolo told News4.

The victims were at Lafayette Square across from the White House, near the center statue of former President Andrew Jackson as well as a tree, Maggiolo said.

Medics took the women and men to hospitals. Maggiolo said he could not elaborate on their exact injuries.

“All we know for sure is that there was a lightning strike in their vicinity, in their immediate vicinity, and all four were injured,” he said.

Gawd needs to improve his aim. ;)

Why do people always blame this stuff on God?

And suddenly become silent when the same shit happens to a church or deeply religious people.
Who knows? Maybe the couple killed were religious people. Walking around outside when there is lighting in the area, does not have much to do with God.

Isn't that the whole point of religion?
Not really. Just because God knows when a sparrow falls, does not make him responsible for it falling. Many people take the wrong message. More often than not, God does not get involved in the little picture. You do not want to get yourself in situations lightly, where you require his undivided attention and probably should avoid walking around outside in electrical storms.

Part of the point of religion and God or gods, is the ability to take control of the world around us. If we say God did lightening, then we can make sure we don't get hit, by being good to that God. It's all about control.

OK, but if we say God made the world and set weather in operation to exchange heat, energy and nourish the earth with rains, and that process involves moving air mass containing charged particles in motion, subject to huge changes in potentials, that discharge randomly to equalize potential, than people, whether religious or not should take this into account and head inside or at least avoid unnatural and natural attractors that act like lighting rods such as small groves of trees when storms come up. To do otherwise is to ignore the systems put in place by God.

I lived in Florida in the Tampa Bay Area. Florida is advertised as the lightning capitol of the United Staters and Tampa likes to say it is the lightning capitol of the state.

I have known a number of people who have been struck by lighting or felt effects from a close lightning strike. My ex-wife, my son in law and several co-workers. None were seriously injured.

That becomes a much tougher row to hoe considering the deterministic nature of the universe, human free will or not. It is not as though the sparrow is necessarily impacted by that will.

Welp. George Floyd mural in Toledo, Ohio. Notice the crown on his head. God not having it? I don't know. For the record, I don't think the cop should have choked the guy out. I also don't think we should make him into a king.

Church debates approving homosexuality in their ranks; God sends a tornado through downtown Minneapolis which rips up the steeple. What a coincidence.

Last, Democrats cheat on their election, they "win" Biden and Harris.

I rest my case. God wins. :)

False.

"He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."--Matthew 5:45

This nation would be a darn sight better off if the entirety of Maryland, DC and also northern VA (just to make sure we get all the rot) breaks off the mainland and floats away into the sea. Because I hope not to be cruel, we can airlift this new island food, meds and supplies, and they can pretend to control us all they like, but we can feel free to start over.

Okay. I dream about this a lot actually. heh.

Well, when you're making up God, you can decide that God uses lightning to smite those he looks unfavorably upon. Doesn't need to be LOGICAL. In fact, putting logic in this whole thing is very unreligious

Really? How do you know God did not set up basic logic and favored those with a logical mind from the beginning. Maybe it's just me, but there are a whole lot of logical natural laws, linking everything in the universe to some extent. When it does not logically make sense, it is usually not looking at the math correctly, also known as human error. You got to admit, the system is flawless, as far as we are able to understand it. We just cannot manipulate it beyond our understanding. Gee. Sounds like God.

Well, that's not why God or gods and religion were invented.
