Fundamental transformation

The left has taken over
28 Jan 2026 ~~ By Eric Utter

This republic has changed dramatically in recent years -- politically, morally, and, perhaps most significantly, demographically.
Section 15 of the Virginia Declaration of Rights (a precursor to The Declaration of Independence) that was adopted by the Virginia Constitutional Convention on June 12, 1776, states: “That no free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality, and virtue and by frequent recurrence to fundamental principles.”
Does that appear to be the case today?
Let’s go item by item. Clearly, many of us are not firmly adhered to justice. Those on The Left routinely take the side of arsonists, thieves, rapists and even murderers as opposed to law enforcement … or those who have been the victims of arsonists, thieves, rapists and even murderers.
Moreover, a two-tiered system of justice has taken hold nationally, in which members of certain groups are deliberately treated differently than others.
Moderation? There’s a cannabis dispensary on every street corner, liquor stores are open on Sundays, fentanyl kills scores of thousands annually, some states hand out free crack pipes, gambling is systemic and ubiquitous, most of us cannot stop looking at our smart phones, and many more are addicted to video games and/or porn.
Next up is frugality. O.K., I can’t even write the word with a straight face. The U.S. is nearing 40-trillion dollars in debt and spends substantial sums of money on things like an Iraqi version of Sesame Street. On an individual level, most of us are determined to get that new Apple iPhone or big screen television whether we need — or can afford — it or not.
~Snip~
Finally, we have “frequent recurrence to fundamental principles.” How are we faring in that regard? Do the majority of us fervently long for the days of limited government? I don’t see the Ten Commandments around. Do kids even know what they are? When I was growing up, people still frequently talked of “pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps” and “keeping your nose to the grindstone and shoulder to the wheel.” The “Golden Rule” and “Do unto others” were common themes.
Today? Not so much. Too many dismiss or disdain our Founders, in some cases going so far as to vandalize or topple their statues. The Founders set us on the right path, but we took a sharp turn and went way too far down a road that ought not have been travelled. The question is not can we find our way back, but do we want to.
It’s no wonder that we have lost many of our liberties and that so much of our government is injudicious, corrupt and oriented towards the tyrannical.
Can we, today, truly be said to be one nation? Under God? Indivisible?

Commentary:
Can we all attribute our present political problems to the election of a supposed American citizen and Red Diaper baby with several aliases to the presidency of the United State id America who claimed on the eve of his presidency “We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America.”
Almost all of our most serious problems are on display in big cities and AWFUL suburbs. The schools are a mess in almost all of those places too, and Big The enemy seldom ventures outside of the big city limits. All of them would collapse if not for government handouts and the outside contributions of a few obscenely wealthy benefactors who keep things stirred up with their rent-a-mob money.
If not for the Congress of Corrupt Cowards and the Stench From the Bench corrupt court’s positions on voting integrity and the invasion, this would have long ago been quashed.
"If you look at great human civilizations, from the Roman Empire to the Soviet Union, you will see that most do not fail simply due to external threats but because of internal weakness, corruption, or a failure to manifest the values and ideals they espouse." ~~ Cory Booker
I detest Booker but he isn’t far off the mark here. It is ironic that it is he and his party that abandoned out ideals but here we are.
We just need to assist and keep the faith.

Why don't you provide some examples. They should be all over the internet and easy to find.

Or, to simplify: Our system of government only works if people of virtue are the ones running it. Weak people tend to gravitate toward autocracy, either by choice or by force.

The Soviet Union was large...it was never "great".

The Soviet Union was large...it was never "great".

It had its moment in the sun probably from the early 50's to the early 60's. It was competitive with the US in tech and space, was feeding its people, and its industry came back due to the "help" they got from German POWs, German machine tools/equipment taken and their Eastern European Client States.

What killed them is the system started lying to itself, so much that even the Politburo had no idea what their economy was actually doing. That, and they assumed the people would continue to be willing to live under the WWII "war economy". Wrongly.

The SU was never great for its people. It was great for the political class, bureaucracies always are, but for the citizens it sucked.

Agree 100%, but for a bit there they were on a decent path, but in the end a command economy ends up being no economy.

It wasn't, I am saying they, by force, were on a (ok new word then, "improved") path in the 50's and early 60's to some type of success, but in the end, the system itself was the failure point.

And as I said, that was with slave POW labor, taking most of East Germany's Industrial plant as compensation, and rigging the economies of Eastern Europe to support their own.

Ok, that I can agree with.

Ok, that I can agree with.

One has to remember that when socialists/communists take over they are usually taking over from a bad situation. So their initial activities often have real positive effects. It's the long term unsustainability of Marxism that is its fatal flaw.

If we are to fight it properly, we have to be honest about its short term successes to make people believe us when we point out its long term failures.

I think you meant descent not decent....

I think you meant descent not decent....

In the 50's and 60's everyone thought they were winning. Their Space program, the initial "missile gap, the expansion of socialism in newly liberating Africa, the spread of Soviet arms and equipment and their superiority in quality (in the 50's at least).

Their descent started after the Cuban Missile crisis and continued until their collapse.
