But it involves some scholarly analysis of myths , legends , archeology etc .

It happened in a long ago period when the energy frequency (ies) was / were different and one can chat forever about possible causes of that --- and the almost certain explanations which involve base assumptions which consensus is not yet ready to discuss sensibly .

In simple terms , before the last near extinction event whether you define it in terms of Ice Age , Flood , Asteroid Impact OR other reasons ( !!).
