Most people hear "reparations" and they automatically think $$$$ and start running for the door, So I like how Hughley gave alternatives, like providing interest-free secured loans or forgiving debts, something to get black folks a financial boost they didn't get when they had no rights. That's more tangible. There is nothing more frightening to humans than the unknown. Many horror-films take advantage of it by hiding the scary monster and letting the most powerful frightening instrument in the universe (the imagination) go to work.

Maybe that is the reason many are not receptive to the idea. They have seen no plan and imagine the worst.

This is similar to the climate change debates. All the effort put into proving or disproving man-made climate change leaves people like me thinking settlement terms. What are the climate-change people asking us all to do?

If there are practical, tangible measures proposed, that will settle the issue for good, people will agree on the terms and be done with it. The problem with the climate change people is they proposed a huge, expensive tax and trade program that would allow useless, pollution-benign "businesses" to sell their allotted government credits to big, rich polluters. The "solution" would have reduced no carbon emissions whatsoever. The only thing that "solution" would do is transfer...... as in transfer money from the treasury of the big polluter to the non-operating "business" selling credits.

The point is, a settlement must be final, permanent, tangible, and tolerable. It can't be a fucking scam like the example above. It must actually be aimed at addressing the alleged problem.

So, it is helpful to take a timeout on the yelling and bickering over the merits of the reparations claim and talk terms.

Forget liability for a moment. Let's talk damages and see if we can negotiate a settlement to put it to bed. We need a proposal.

I don't know why whites run from dollars only when blacks bring it up. Hughley also mentioned instances where whites paid modern descendants for things done in long ago prior generations. We are owed money. And it's going to take money to fix the overall damage the continuing legacy of racism against blacks have caused. Whites have ZERO room to talk about anybody getting money because of their race.

And why in the hell do blacks have to present a plan when no one else has. It is this kind of mess coming from whites that pisses me off. That's just an excuse. Let's just say that every black person gets a reparations check and blows the money, that means we have no right to ask for anything else and if we continued to suffer, too bad, we really did do it to ourselves this time. Black privilege is based upon intimidation, that intimidation geared towards blacks gaining an advantage over whites.
