Kristofferson was probably bombed when he penned Me and Bobby McGee- and I like Jerry Lee Lewis' version better though as of late I really like Crystal Bowersox version- he (Kristofferson) like Mickey Newbury are, IMNSHO, lyrical genius's- I've thought often about that line, since the first time I heard Jerry Lee Lewis sing it in the early 70's. Granted I was a lot younger than now and not as cerebral but it still intrigued me- I wonder where it came from- and why- great song writers are like that and that is one regret I have in this life- not being a good story teller.
