On occasion I worked a Max prison's upper yard, where the worst of the worst were housed. There was a dedicated camera for each cell, and each hallway - never heard of one failing. My primary unit at not quite that security level had a camera for each rotunda, and the exit- never heard of one failing. That was the mid-80s.

I even worked the graveyard shift sometimes. Fk N A, you fall asleep you're written up or fired, even at the lower levels of custody, doesn't matter. I knew a guard well that was fired for it - the dumb shit made a bed for himself on the floor of a tower, at the medium security prison. Brass would do their rounds, and hit the towers with a flashlight. You better flash back or you're toast, Hard to do that when you're on the floor asleep

Another thing is while I never had a high profile inmate such as Epstein, I also worked a housing for the federal inmates. We watched them like a hawk, because when it came to feds, they were all essentially high profile, and brass wasn't ******* around. The guards assigned to the unit were some of the most competent. The federal inmates were more intelligent by the numbers, BTW, kind of interesting.

Incidentally, I also worked death row sometimes, didn't approach the security of Epstein's housing. I found an inmate had hung himself from the bed frame with a sheet. I think that's how they said Epstein "committed suicide". Aint no cameras, but we were doing our jobs, imagine. I was the inmate's buddy afterwards, cuz "i saved his life". Dude's face was purple, and he was unconscious.
