It's "made" in ex-Renault factory. By made I mean China sends 90% finished car to that factory and they just paint it and screw the Lada badge on. Basically those workers have "fake" jobs that Kremlin invented because China could easily just ship 100% complete car.

Of course Russia has domestically engeneered and manufactured cars, like Niva Travel, GAZ Largus or even Lada Granta. The problem with sellings of Lada Granta and Lada Vesta is not "collapse of Russian economy", vice versa, it was designed as "anti-sanction civilian car", but sancions were not as effective as everyone (including Russians) believed they could be, and Russia got a lot of much cheaper Chinese cars.
Actually, if the current situation will continue - Lada will increase military production and leave civilian part of market to Chinamen.
