Jim Plunkett
Trent Dilfer
Steve Young
Peyton Manning (who won one with the team who drafted him too)
Matt Stafford

Any others?

Will Sam Darnold join that list tomorrow?

Does this suggest that the obsession with having a rookie First Round QB often backfires, and then ends up rewarding another team after the initial team loses patience?

Mac Jones to the Jets?

While Maye was hurt and just flat out awful, Darnold did not look like a HOFer either. Darnold was the better QB, but this was just about the worst Super Bowl for QBs ever.

Dilfer is on the list because Dilfer was a FIRST ROUNDER.

The others were NOT.

Brees Rd 2
Brady Rd 6
Brad Johnson Rd 9...

What are the FIRST TWO WORDS of the OP TITLE???

Farve drafted by ATL
Theisman by MIA

Indeed, Darnold missed some passes, but if you watched from the 1st drive, the Patriots were jumping routes. Darnold didn't bite and either made a great throw for a completion or overthrew the jumped route for a harmless incompletion, avoiding the Interception.
Brilliant QB Play by Darnold.

Seattles D is and was completely DOMINATE.
Mike Macdonald is pure genius.

Darnold did exactly what he was coached to do.
No turnovers in the ENTIRE Postseason.

I credit Mike Macdonald the most.
Coaching in FB is a huge factor, more than any other sport.

Seahawks were well taught, and they did Exactly what they were coached to do.
Well done Seattle.

They're the champs.

Not a lot of HOFers on the team, but it was enough to win it this year...

McDonald was very smart realizing it was likely a defensive game and going for FGs instead of 4th downs...

35ish SB's won by 1st round draft picks on their original team. Well over 40 (closer to 50) won by QB's on their original team. Just because something can happen (a team wins a SB with a retread 1st draft pick) doesnt mean that's the best way to do something. If Im in New York I can get to LA if I fly east, but that's not the best way to make that trip.

Favre was drafted by ATL and threw like 4 passes for them and was traded to GB for a 1st rd draft pick. So he was technically drafted by Atl but he wasn't traded to GB at some discount after the Falcons got tired of his play.

The value of a 1st Rd QB is the hope is that they outperform their contract. QB's are the most expensive position on a team's roster. You can agree with that or not but it doesn't change what is. Therefore, if I can fill that position with a player I'm paying far less than his market value given the rookie contract scale, I can afford to spend more money on other positions that a team who's playing a veteran QB far more.

You have this misguided conception that NFL teams don't know what they are doing when they are drafting players. It's been proven over and over that you are incorrect in this belief.

The best path to winning a SB is drafting a franchise QB. Most of those players are drafted in the 1st rd.

And? Who said drafting people to play football is an exact science? What is a stone cold lock is that YOU are not better than the NFL scouts.

Them getting a few pick wrong doesn't make you right.

It's not parroting guru's it's being intelligent enough to know that there are people who are better at things than I am. People who spend their entire lives evaluating football players and who make millions of dollars a year to make the decisions on whether to draft them and when (GM's and Coaches) are likely a bit better at it than some random internet troll (you).

The list above is just the bad bad picks. Some of the picks in the first rounds of those two drafts were OK, not worth a First, but OK players.

But the "inexact science" issue is there, big time, and some teams are just horrifyingly awful in the Draft.
