In days he will again have the US government at his disposal. trump does not care about the country. trump cares about paying off his debtors and all the power he can accumulate.

I initially thought his effort to overturn the 2020 election was due to his crushed ego, but now I see his efforts to destroy our electoral system were not finished in 2020. He promised Poootin many things and the pandemic put many on hold. But now he has another chance to bring down many democratic safe guards...and he is anxious to do just that.

His march to fascism will not be sudden or overnight. It will be a slow, methodical dive into his version of Orban and Hungary. The media is one of the real problems for his efforts. Thankfully, he has the richest man in the world in his back pocket. He can buy any news outlets that he want to control the maga narrative. The US is about to begin a slide into autocracy.

I hadn't previously thought of it in quite those terms. But like a mafia boss Putin may indeed try to call in what he sees as a debt for his help in 2016. They can't get back Crimea. That would mean a civil war no one is prepared for. Ukraine can become a NATO designated neutral country with no NATO installations.

There is still the question of how many Crimeans are native and how many were moved there during the Soviet Era as a balance against local populations.

Honestly there has probably been so much ethnic movement done since the times of the Czars that figuring out who was there first is pointless anyway.
