Been looking for jobs that pay under the table, for various reasons (please don't ask).

What's the best way to go about it? I have been asking businesses point-blank whether they were willing to pay cash. But charging at them like this is not very effective, they get scared and think that I am someone sent from the tax authorities. It's very counter-productive.

So, I am just wondering if there are better ways of finding out whether a business pays cash or is willing to pay cash. In a way that won't make it uncomfortable. Thanks

The days of earning cash are over.... it can't be done legally.... in the 70's before the IRS had access to your bank accounts you could but not no more...

Under the Bank Secrecy Act of 1970, financial institutions are required to report certain transactions to the IRS, including wire transfers over $10,000.
The Biden administration proposed a plan in 2021 to require banks to report more information on bank accounts to help identify tax evaders, which faced criticism and was later revised.
The revised proposal would trigger reporting to the IRS when more than $10,000 in transfers occur on a single account over the course of one year, excluding salary or wage deposits.

I take it you are looking for something that is legal? Because......

Looking for a cash job so that the income is hidden isn't something that is "legal".

If you are in a job the law requires payment at minimum wage, taxes, FICA, reporting, etc.

If you have a pickup truck hanging out in the parking lot of large box store like Home Depot and offer to haul customers supplies like appliances to their homes for a cash payment. Will get you some work. Cleaning up and hauling trash to the dump from residential areas like garage cleaning debris or the owner of a empty lot needing a one time cleanup. Its how I made a lot of side cash in the past. Now before any folks get all jumpy I always added it to the Other Income on my tax return.:) Just to add college girls are always in a need of a guy with a truck to move furniture. You can make cash and usually get fed.
