As you shift focus it will appear as though it's in various white dots.

Easier for we one-eyed.....and you'll see it more easily with one eye shut.

Shutting one eye does seem to alter the effect but it still shifts to me.

And well ye may be...but the blind spot (one tiny one per eye, perceived as a black dot under the right circumstances) is real.

Right, the blind spot in each eye is at the optic disc, where the nerves from the retina gather to become the optic nerve.
