As of today, I'm happy. Brazil qualified in June and with new coach they look competitive

USA got in by being the host, as did Canada and Mexico

Italy just beat Israel 3-0 and looks like they will not overtake Norway to win the group outright so they will have to prevail in the Playoffs. Italy missed the last 2 World Cups

This will be the last World Cup for probably the best crop of players ever including Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Thiago Silva, Lewandowski, Modric, DiMaria (had DiMaria not been pulled in 2022 Argentina would have won 5-0, instead we got one of the most exciting World Cup Finals)

This is the only sport I follow.

You should too.

My wish has always been for the USA to get to the QuarterFinals

If Canada could ever win the World Cup it would shock the world.

Uh, this is America. We don't talk about soccer here.

Its a great spectacle and I love the passion of the players. Wales badly wanted a piece of England last time...and got their head handed to them. Hopefully we can see some regional match-ups again during the course of the tourney.

International teams don't really do much for me. Club soccer is a better product. More passion in a tournament like the World Cup. Its just sort of weird to see guys who are rivals for 3.9 years playing for their own clubs suddenly on the same team.

I'm always amused that after the Cup clubs that didn't have a lot of "losses" to World Cup competition seem to surge because they had time to recover, practice, and prepare for their next opponents.

My Mom is Brazilian and I lived in Rio when I was much younger. My uncles took me to watch a club match at Maracana. Hearing 40,000 fans yelling "Figla da puta!!" at a referee for missing a call made an impression

I rooted for Messi and Argentina the whole way in 2022

The next time a 1 hour NFL game comes in under 3 hours, let me know. 1/3 of the time the ball is literally not in play.

PS: Have they ever determined what a catch is?
When the combined scoring in soccer goes over three goals, lemme know.

So when you have the NFL and the score is 14-7; that is 3 goals too. But somehow in your dull mind; that is "action packed".

Perhaps Soccer should give points instead of goals so it can make idiots like you think the 2-1 match was actually 14-7.

Uh, the average number of NFL points is well into the forties. For college football, it's over 50. The average number of goals in a soccer game is under 3.

15th post

I was at that game. 3-0. A reverse of the previous Friendlies. My gf's (at the time) brother was playing for England.

Btw, the balance all-time between the two is something like 5-1.

You seem to be confusing goals with points. Take my Raiders this past Monday Night. Cowboys won 33/16.
Had that been a soccer match and teams only scored when you actually made a touchdown, the match would have been 4-1. Which would have reflected, accurately in my view, who the better team was; it would have been no less exciting (as much as the cowboys and raiders could manufacture "exciting"). But, of course, in American football, you get points for kicking a ball through a goal post 50 yards away. In Soccer you have to earn every goal. So I currently like it better. also if the MNF affair was soccer, it would have been over in a little over 90 minutes; not these 3-4 hour affairs where the ball is dead for 2/3 of the time. Just my opinion.

You're comparing apples and oranges. The scoring in American football goes like this:

1 -- extra point
2 -- safety
3 -- field goal
6 -- touchdown

Saying that any American football score should be comparable to the single goal scoring in international football (soccer) makes no sense. You might be thinking of hockey.

What is your opinion of the Americanized version like MLS?
Not a big fan, but I get it. Americans have a taste for lots of scoring. I do however like Futsal. Not sure if you have such a thing, but it more of a participation sport in my book. If you're playing yourself, then you want some fast action. Could be comparable to softball?
