There is a technique being used more & more frequently to kill threads.

A very VERY ULTRA-LONG post where you have to scroll down 3 quarters of a page just to get past that one post.

I don't thunk posts should be extremely limited...but we should be able to find a reasonable length of a post rather than allowing one user to pollute threads they don't like.

It seems a few people keep LONG news articles on hand for just such purposes.

There is a counter-measure. Put them on ignore.

You took heed to my response on a recent OP. Thank you.

Sorry...I never saw your reply...I wasn't willing to scroll for that long past that ultra-long post on your thread.

It's happened on 3 or 4 threads just today.

They go unread by most here

It reminds me of why I set my voice mail to cut off at 1 minute.

If the idiot leaving me a message can't spit it out in one minute...I wouldn't bother listening to them any way.
I can usually say what I want to say in two lines or less.

I have heard that Ann Arbor had poutine, but that they had to shut it down... however that sounded like sheer poutinery to me.

How about you?

As for copy-n-pastes, a history forum I belong to has this rule:

"When posting any kind of news article, a research article, a blog post, etc, if you don't own it or have explicit permission to post it in its entirety, the following rules must be adhered to:
  • You cannot post more than 1/6 of the total article, or 3 paragraphs, whichever is shorter.
  • You must provide a link back to the source, if online, or provide the source, if offline."
