A panel in Los Angeles sided with Gov. Gavin Newsom in a decision that will help Democrats counter Republican gerrymandering in Texas. Republicans are expected to appeal.

A federal court on Wednesday rejected Republicans’ claim that California’s new congressional maps were unconstitutional, upholding a voter-approved plan intended to benefit Democrats in this year’s midterm elections.

Two judges in a three-judge panel in Los Angeles sided with Gov. Gavin Newsom and fellow Democrats in Congress, who argued that the maps were drawn purely to give their party an advantage, in reaction to a similar gerrymander by Texas Republicans. The ruling shot down arguments by the California Republican Party and the Trump administration that the maps amounted to a racial gerrymander that focused on favoring Latinos over other groups of voters.

Republicans are expected to appeal the ruling and ask the U.S. Supreme Court to decide the matter. However, the nation’s highest court has already indicated that it is unlikely to block California’s maps.

Republicans have zero problem with Texas bending its knee to Trump and rigging their congressional maps, but Governor Newsom does the same thing to combat what Texas did, they get upset over it. SCOTUS is NOT inclined to rule on this matter, the maps will more likely stay as they are. Do as Republicans do, and they hate it.

Why is it unconstitutional when others do it but not when they do it?

I am betting this is upholding the current plan, not the one Newscum wants to rewrite to balance out the changes in Texas. They have not had time to pass the new one yet. Paywall article so I am not certain. Likely fake news by our resident liberal airhead.

Because the Democrats are doing it of course. Not one whimper, not one whine when the Tex-Ass ReNaziKlans did 47's bidding and districts (that discriminated African-American and Hispanics) but let California do the same exact thing and they have shit fits.

So hypocrisy sure, but how in the heck do they make a legal argument in court that says that when California does it it's unconstitutional but that when they do it, it's not? I can't remember but is the Texas case waiting for SCOTUS to weigh in or is it already a done deal?

As I understand it SCOTUS is NOT inclined to rule in favor ReNaziKlans suit against California. Tex-Ass is still fighting court. On one California ReNaziKlans argue that the new map disenfranchise minority voters, which exactly the Tex-Ass does. Go figure.

Meh, plenty of time for appeal.

Riddle me this.....So why does Mass have near 40% gop voters but have no gop representation in congress?

The consolation prize is that more money will leave the state. All of those cities and towns with religious names. It's a wonder the progs have not changed their names yet. You gotta figure there will be the name Diablo in the new names of the cities. To your red areas. Take their money. Take their foundation. Little by little.

Imagine that, I'm stunned at this decision

Do you support Gerrymandering, or oppose it in ALL aspects?
Regardless of who has or will do it,

Gerrymandering is 100% WRONG, in ANY State.
Congress choosing the voters is WRONG.
Voters choosing the Congress is RIGHT.

I DARE Meister to say, yes Winco is correct.

The US needs Proportional Representation. You can't gerrymander that, you can't cheat that, you can't spend money to subvert it either.

It's the people voting and then getting heard.

I kinda like that the Democrat Party is so desperate and in the final throws of imploding. They started off as an embarrassment to humanity are ending up much the same.

Typical Federal Judge

Whom will the ruling benefit?

Republicans? Motion denied

Democrats? Motion granted

Actually CA was far more gerrymandered before than Texas is now. GOP simply trying to level the playing field that Democrats have long-ago skewed.
