A federal appeals court on Thursday struck down a longstanding federal ban that prevented the sale of handguns to Americans between the ages of 18 and 20 — a landmark gun control regulation in place since 1968.

The conservative Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that the federal law banning handgun sales to teens is inconsistent with the nation's historical tradition and violates the Second Amendment.

When did 20yr old adults become teenagers?
"Conservative" 5th court? Does ABC ever refer to the 9th, 4th, etc, as "liberal" courts?
Oh! ABC needs to slant the headline to meet the narrative. Silly me.
-No- bias in the media.

Good ruling - as the laws of the late 18th century did not restrict people of this age group in this way, there is no historical tradition of restricting purchase/ownership of handguns to people 21 and older - as such, the current restriction violates the constitution.

Now, we just need to get the USSC to grant cert on an AWB case!!

You won't trust them to drink a beer in a bar at 18 but you'll trust them with a deadly weapon.

The idiocy of trumpanzees never ceases to amaze me.

Access to alcohol, for retards who know don't know better, isn't a Constitutionally protected right. Not being a right, it is allowable to be regulated by state and local governments.

Well don't lie and call 18 year olds adults then, they're not if they are forcefully prevented from doing what a 21 year old can.

18-20yr old Americans have legal access to M16s, M60s, and mini-guns.
Constitutionality aside, there's no rational, reasonable argument for denying them legal access to handguns.

Keeps the body count high. School terms in the US match the hunting season.

Lying is only ok when you do it? By the way, the age of majority isn't the really the issue so lying wasn't done in my post.
Claiming a person is an adult when they are restricted from doing what some other adults can, is at best, misleading.

You need a new designation for people aged 18 to 21 - semi-adult.

They are entrusted with weapons a whole lot more deadly than that in the military.

Yes, you need that to avoid the discussion on applying common sense and guns. When the common sense slaps the chops of a gun nut.....mouth froth, slaver, "Rights, 2nd Amendment, God given Rights". No room in the 🧠 of a gun nut to discuss common sense.

(Deflection required, cue clichés no doubt)

15th post

"Ultimately, the text of the Second Amendment includes eighteen-to-twenty-year-old individuals among 'the people' whose right to keep and bear arms is protected. The federal government has presented scant evidence that eighteen-to-twenty-year-olds' firearm rights during the founding-era were restricted in a similar manner to the contemporary federal handgun purchase ban,"

Feel free to soundly argue otherwise.

The ruling is part of a larger legal battle over age limits for handgun purchases. The Fourth Circuit heard arguments Thursday in a similar case challenging the federal handgun age limit, and earlier this month Minnesota officials asked the Supreme Court to review an Eighth Circuit decision that struck down a similar state law.

Oh look. A probable split in the Circuit courts
What better to trigger a grant of cert from the USSC?

Winning.

Maybe we should recruit after the age of 21.
The age of majority should be turned back to 21, like it was before the Vietnam War. If anything, 18 year olds are even less mature now than they were back then.
