If you use fatwood to start fireplace fires you can stretch your supply by splitting the fatwood pieces into pencil sized pieces, which will easily start your wood on fire. They split easily and safely using a knife and hammer.

We collect a lot of fatwood at Fish Camp.
You can go out with a five gallon bucket and fill it in an hour or so.
A little goes a long way.
