Looks like Seattle and the state of Washington are finally getting their "payday"!!!

The father of a young man killed in Seattle’s Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) zone has filed $3 billion in claims against King County, the city of Seattle, and Washington state.

Horace Anderson filed the lawsuit Thursday over the death of his 19-year-old son, Horace Lorenzo Anderson, alleging that the local government’s “inactions” and actions created a “hazardous, and lawless situation” that resulted in his son’s death, KING 5 news reported from a statement by the law firm representing Anderson.

“It is important to hold our government leaders accountable so this will not happen again,” attorney Evan Oshan said in a statement, according to the publication. “Those in positions of power must not be allowed to hide from their duty to act responsibly and protect citizens. With power and prestige comes responsibility!”
Anderson was shot inside the outskirts of CHAZ, which was later renamed CHOP, early in the morning June 20 and carried by bystanders to Harborview Medical Center, according to King5. The 19-year-old died at the hospital, the publication reported.

“The thing that we really need to focus on is that there was a, an individual who lost his life unnecessarily and he, it was predictable, it was preventable, and this should have never happened,” Oshan said in an interview with KING 5.
Oshan told King 5 that the police precinct near the zone was “given up,” and said emergency medical crews nearby did not provide aide to Lorenzo Anderson.
“What I do know is that EMS did not come in and take care of Lorenzo as he lay bleeding. This was a totally lawless situation. It puts him in great danger and it was just wrong,” Oshan said.

One can only assume this is the tip of the iceberg. I expect others to file similar claims against municipalities and states for loses resulting from looting, fire, and business interruptions. A very strong case can be made to include commercial real estate owners and management companies as well. The abdication of responsibility by city councils, borough reps, and mayors in controlling the organized rampage is indefensible. When a mayor or council members demand police stand down and back off they assume complicity and cities financial exposure.

I've always wondered this. When someone wins the Ghetto Lotto and the dust settled. If they had the choice of all those millions or bringing their loved one back, which would they chose?

I bet 80% would let them continue being worm food.

But you can see this father would not.

While very true and the local officials do bear responsibility, it overlooks the individual. If there is a riot, I have no wish to satisfy my curiosity as to it's chaos or progress, and I will not venture into that area. If I do not own a property or business there, I would not remain in that area. People (especially young people) make foolish choices. I have the right to go into dangerous areas of any city in America, including areas I consider dangerous in my own city, but I generally don't, even though I am specifically trained and licensed to carry person protection. I cannot imagine making a lawsuit of it, anymore than I would sue the government if I had mishap on an uncontrolled stretch of white water inside a government controlled area. I know the hazards whenever I go and accept the responsibility for the safety of myself and my equipment is my own.

While he's certainly not wrong about the local government, I do wonder what the hell his son was doing there. If he was an innocent bystander, just in the area going about his business, then I'm behind the father and his lawsuit 100%. If he was there to protest and participate in CHAZ/CHOP, then I'm far less sympathetic to the notion that the government was supposed to protect him from the consequences of his own actions.

Again, either way, the city government was inexcusably incompetent bordering on criminally so.
