The Fatah Party, led by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, posted a video on its Facebook page from the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, its military wing that is banned as a terrorist group by the U.S., the EU and Canada. The video shows masked militants threatening to turn Tel Aviv into a ball of fire, according to a translation by PMW, Palestinian Media Watch, on Wednesday.
We swear to you that we will turn the beloved [Gaza] Strip into a graveyard for your soldiers, and we will turn Tel Aviv into a ball of fire, one of the militants says on the footage that was uploaded to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades site on Monday and the Fatah site on Tuesday.
PMW said, These threats are made by a masked man in uniform standing in front of a group of other masked men, all of whom are holding weapons. The full video is eight minutes long and shows footage of masked men in military training, arsenals of weapons, missiles being launched, as well as footage of Israelis running for shelter during missile attacks.
The glorification of violence and incitement on the partys official Facebook page comes a week after that practice was singled out, specifically, by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman U.S. Rep. Ed Royce who pushed legislation to combat the practice last week.
Last week Royce said, As Secretary of State John Kerry engages in negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians, Congress will make it clear to the Palestinian Authority that continuing anti-Israel incitement to violence through PA-controlled media outlets must cease.
No more Palestinian Authority-funded Facebook pages or childrens magazines holding up Hitler as a positive role model. Not only must the PA cease incitement, it should engage in a clear, conclusive and deliberate effort to officially and publicly repudiate the providers of such hatred. The prospect of a real, lasting peace can only be built on the foundation of a culture of tolerance one that renders such rhetoric politically unacceptable, Royce said a week ago.
