Agreed. I have no idea why they're spending so much time on this useless story arc. It's killing the show.

Homeland fans have taken their collective disgust for one of the main characters out of their TV rooms and onto the internet.

Dana Brody, the daughter of main character Sargent Nicholas Brody, is universally seen as one of the most hated characters on the hit show, and given that the plot centers around terrorists intent on killing civilians, it certainly says something when an angsty teenager is the subject of scorn.

Richard Lawson @rilaws - On the next episode of espionage thriller Homeland, Dana takes her SATs.

Hilarious!

I have not watched Homeland, but your topic reminds me of the show 24 with Kiefter Sutherland. I kept wondering why they didn't just kill off Jack Bauer's daughter Kim. I stopped watching the show after a couple of seasons just because she was so fricking annoying.

I like Dana's storyline better than her mother's. Her mom is pretty boring.

I really don't like that they have Carrie's psychosis coming out every freaking season. She's annoying when she acts crazy and talks in that scary voice. Get Brody back. Sheesh.

That was when they wrote her out of the scripts.

Annoying but hot.

I'm sorry, Claire Danes couldn't act her way out of a wet paper sack...seriously, is that all she can do? AND SHE'S GOT AN EMMY!

The stars of the show are Patinkin and Lewis. On IMDB Mom and the two kids get higher billing then Mandy Patinkin (Saul)!

WTF?

As far as Clair's voice...it's like nails on a chalkboard.

^Claire Danes is one of the best actresses this century.

A. Claire Danes is an outstanding actress who is hitting a ******* home run playing this character. I only wish she had boobs.

(2) The suicidal daughter is SUPPOSED to be irritating - just like in real life. Ever live with a 15-year-old female in the house? They are all ******* goofy, and cause the kinds of issues that Dana causes in the program.

(iii) Mandy is doing a great job with this part, but you can't call him the best on the series because of the others doing so well.

d. There is no way that the writing can continue at this level. It's just too good.

V. Mrs. Brody is a valuable contributor, if only as eye candy.

I'm addicted to this program.

Danes was basically a child actress whose career was over around 1995. She didn't so much of anything for 15 years until she took a shot at television.

Danes has one speed in Homeland...the hysterical, crazy woman. Other than that she has shown little depth and range. Even her vamp is unconvincing.

Saul and Brody are carrying the show.

Maybe she's boring to you as a female, but I think that woman is gorgeous. I just like looking at her. (I think it's because I'm becoming a dirty old man.)

I think what might annoy you about Carrie's manic episodes is the fact that she manifests disturbingly real psychotic episodes, so much so it's occurred to me that the actress is really bi-polar and goes off her meds to do those scenes, which are all too real.

I can't believe that is a serious assessment. That actress' portrayal of a psychotic episode is as realistic as it gets. So much so it is hard to believe she's acting.

If she is acting there is no question she's had close access to extremely manic bi-polar persons and has carefully studied their mannerisms. And her ability to imitate them justifies any awards she's received.

I agree (about Dana). That kid is annoying. They should send her to camp for the summer and some remote school for the winters.

"Crazy" is one of the easiest things for a hollywood actress to do.

IMO the entire bipolar side of the lead actress is distracting. I didn't for a second buy that a person so obviously afflicted as Carrie would be made a field agent by the CIA.

The story is about terrorists trying to kill people and HS's efforts to stop that. But the story has now become how Carrie's bipolar order effects the efforts of HS.

Stoopid navel gazing.

Of course that is an obvious consideration. But the likelihood of someone with the disorder being in that job is far from impossible. And as long as something is possible it is a valid element within the boundaries of a fictional situation.

It does seem to be focused on that issue in recent episodes, but in spite of that it so far is managing to remain entertaining.

If it starts being fantastic I will lose interest.

It's a very good show in spite of writing irregularities like Carries bipolar shit and the daughter distraction.

One of the comments above put it right, "Homeland, a series about terrorists and Homeland/CIA efforts to stop them. Next week, Dana takes her SAT's!"

Having watched the episode on October 13, I'm not sure where they are going with it now or why we should care. Do we want to watch several episodes of Brody trying to get out of the hell-hole in Venezuela (or why these strangers would expend so many resources saving him and keeping him under wraps)?

And as for Carrie, she is irrecoverably damaged as far as ever being a CIA agent again. Is the domestic story line simply her trying to clear Brody's name? Trying to ruin Sol's career? Killing F. Murray Abraham?

I'm watching it but I'm not sure why. I hope it doesn't deteriorate into shit, the way LOST did.

It does seem to be drifting toward fantasy the way Breaking Bad did.

Spoiler alert:

So now we know. Brody was captured at a safehouse outside Tehran after being given up by the CIA, who saw him as problematic if returned to the Real World. He was summarily tried, convicted by a Kangaroo Court in Iran, and given a "suspended sentence." Literally. We watched him swing while a heartbroken Carrie looked on.

Carrie is offered a new position as Station Chief in Istanbul (Constantiople-ople), and wishes to abandon Brody-Junior to her goofy but well-meaning father and sister. Sol has joined the private sector, with a lucrative job in - where else? - NYC. For reasons unfathomable, he is still with his suicide-bomber wife.

Mrs. Brody and Devil-spawn Dana are being semi-written out for Season Four, thank god.

But I'm not sure they gave me any reason to tune in for the next season. Without the customary season-ending cliffhanger issue, I think the audience might well just say, "Who gives a shit?" and not tune in. Unless they can figure out how to bring Brody back to life, I think I'm shed of it.

The Homeland series has been, for me, the tale of a good Marine who was captured, tortured for eight years and brainwashed a la The Manchurian Candidate. Now that Nicholas Brody, an American hero whose mind, family, and life has been cruelly stolen from him has finally been disposed of in a sadly fascinating way, what is left to base a fourth season on?
