The exit polls from this presidential election contain some fascinating information, information that Democrats would be wise to process. I'm using the NBC News and Reuters exit polls. For example:
Trump won 81% of the vote among those who said their family's financial situation is worse now than it was four years ago. Only 24% of those polled said their family's financial situation has improved since 2020.
Trump won an astounding 55% of the male Hispanic vote, a whopping 51% increase over the share he won in 2020.
Trump also won a larger share of the female Hispanic vote than he did in 2020, going from 30% to 38%, an increase of 26%.
Trump's share of the overall Hispanic vote rose by a whopping 47% compared to 2020, going from 32% to 46%.
Trump won by large margins among Protest and Catholic voters, winning 72% of the Protestant vote and 61% of the Catholic vote.
Trump's share of the two youngest voting blocks, the 18-24 and 25-29 groups, rose substantially from 2020, going from 36% to 43%, an increase of 19%.
Trump received 13% of the African-American vote, the largest percentage won by any Republican presidential candidate since 1980.
Trump beat Harris 50% to 47% among households with a total income of under $50,000.
Trump beat Harris 50% to 46% among households with a total income of $50,000 to $100,000.
Trump handily won the military veteran vote by an impressive 31 percentage points, 65% to 34%.
Trump won the rural vote 64% to 34%.
Trump won the suburban vote 51% to 47%.
A surprising datum is that 5% of those who said they voted for Biden in 2020 voted for Trump this time. That equals at least 3 million votes.
Another surprising datum is that Trump won 56% of the votes of first-time voters.
