Yes, and rightfully so. Why WOULDNT the cops want to squash their illegal activities?
You really aren’t very smart. Let’s say they are blocking traffic. What crimes are they committing? Disorderly conduct? Jaywalking? They aren’t breaking things. They are an inconvenience to travelers. All charges would be misdemeanors.
That means the reaction of the police would be excessive if they went in getting tough. It would play into the hands of the protesters. The protesters, best case scenario, get time served and a small fine. Maybe they get community service. Maybe. The cops could get felony charges of excessive force. The city could end up paying millions.
The cops who do go in getting tough like you want end up facing criminal charges. They end up sued. They end up costing the city, county, or state millions in legal fees and settlements.
Take the moron who turned his dog loose on the trucker who was surrendering after a half hour refusal to stop. What happened?
A prosecutor is asking a judge to dismiss the felony charge against an unarmed Black semi-truck driver who was attacked by a police dog after a chase in Ohio on July 4.

That moron was facing years in prison. He was looking at serious and stacked criminal charges. Best case from his point of view, he only spent a few years in State Prison.
Then the cop got tough. The cop sent the dog in. The cop, Ryan Speakman was fired and will probably face charges himself for excessive force. It will cost him a small fortune to get an attorney to represent him during the inevitable lawsuit.
Now. If your goal is instant gratification damn the costs. Then by all means go full testosterone on the baddies. If your goal is to see the baddie punished, then you had better learn to think. You follow the law period. You follow procedure to the letter. You tell the truth always. Otherwise you will be fired. If you are lucky. Or prosecuted. And you’ll be in with the crooks who hate cops as a guest of the State department of corrections. Praying you get sent to maximum security for your own safety.
The chief of police was smart. He didn’t give the opponents anything they could use. This woman is a damned panicky fool.
