They wanted the cops to go in there and get tough. Kudos to the Police Chief for being smarter than this woman. Or you obviously.

It was managed and a minor story instead of a major incident where the cops spend weeks being deposed and answering lawsuits. And the cops avoided their own criminal charges from roughing up the protestors.

The protestors go home annoyed and frustrated that they wasted a day and didn’t do squat.

You really aren’t very smart. Let’s say they are blocking traffic. What crimes are they committing? Disorderly conduct? Jaywalking? They aren’t breaking things. They are an inconvenience to travelers. All charges would be misdemeanors.

That means the reaction of the police would be excessive if they went in getting tough. It would play into the hands of the protesters. The protesters, best case scenario, get time served and a small fine. Maybe they get community service. Maybe. The cops could get felony charges of excessive force. The city could end up paying millions.

The cops who do go in getting tough like you want end up facing criminal charges. They end up sued. They end up costing the city, county, or state millions in legal fees and settlements.
