Every year the T.V. news media talks about "Rip Currents" that pull you out to sea. You never hear a report about the "Undertow" current, that pulls you under the water at the Beach.??!! .Why no "Undertow Current" reporting by the T.V. News media.??!

Effectively I think they are the same.

Because it's the same thing. One on the surface, the other below it.

Beach toutism needs a big drop in people. That would be a great thing.

Undertows are a thing near old power dams with water going over them. It don't take much either.

I remember a couple people drowning at an old power dam (built 1905) in my AO. They got too close and the undertow pulled them under and rolled them around such that they could not escape.

The dam was removed in 2010.....Boy, I sure caught a lot of fish there as a kid.....Back then it was a bait house. the upper building was turned into a residence. The walls were made of limestone block quarried across the river.

Rip currents are simply a channel in the sand that the surf uses as a path of least resistance. That's why you swim parallel, to get away from that channel. Undertow, does that occur as a result of nature? It would take a whirlpool.

They are not the same. Two separate currents.!! That's why so many people die every year. They are not aware of the difference between these currents.!!
