There's a confectioner that makes nut rolls that are as good as the original Pearson's.....They show up in the stores in north Wisco at irregular intervals, and I always buy about ten of them.
Ooooo....Just found them on Amazon....
All candy bars was twice as big as they are now and only cost a nickel.
In the 60s, McDs was 19 cents and White Castle sliders were 12 cents.Yeah but that's only true because our money actually used to be worth something before the politicians in Washington made it all nearly worthless gang-raping it for themselves year in and year out.
I just watched a 1934 Three Stooges where a guy on the sidewalk tells Moe that you could buy a HAMBURGER nor a nickel.

I can remember a radio jingle for Burger Chef in the 60's that wentAs a matter of fact, I remember them running a special somewhere in the 1973-1975 period offering five hamburgers for a buck. I think the bill came to $1.05.![]()

Never heard of them. What part of the country?I wonder if anyone remembers a place called Winky's. They sold the Big Wink. They were a pretty good, fast and upcoming place then were busted for using horse meat.

That's why. I've only been in a couple places on the east coast. DC and a small town in PA. More familiar with west of the Mississippi. Thanks. At least the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic region as far as I know. I think they disappeared in the 70s or 80s.

My parents used to tell me of the candy bars they got for a nickel. If the Nut Goodies were better long ago, the likely reason is because back then, all they had was good, wholesome ingredients and the FDA had not yet discovered all the new synthetic chemicals they now put in them like Soy Lecithin, Modified Soy Protein, beta-h-fructosidase, and Artificial Maple Flavor.
Our Grocery Outlet got a shipment of high cocoa content chocolate--like 50% to 95% cacao and cane sugar. I got a couple bars and they are outstanding.BTW, some of the ingredients above allow the maker to use a cheaper grade of chocolate, less milk, store longer so can be much older by the time you get it and use cheap sweeteners which are chemically altered to take sweeter like sugar.
Is it any wonder then this stuff is not as good as 50-80 years ago?
