On Monday, European Union leader Ursula von der Leyen has said that the European Union is ready to offer "zero-for-zero" tariffs in trade negotiations with the United States for industrial goods.
"We stand ready to negotiate with the United States. Indeed, we have offered zero-for-zero tariffs for industrial goods, as we have successfully done with many other trading partners, because Europe is always ready for a good deal," von der Leyen said on Monday.
This comes as the 27-nation bloc has been in talks to get the US to lower tariffs against the EU. The countries are facing a 25 percent tariff on steel and aluminum imports to the United States that go towards making cars as well as reciprocal tariffs imposed by Trump on various countries. The US president has also implemented a widespread 10 percent tariff on nearly all imports to the US.
"We need to remain calm and respond in a way that de-escalates. The stock markets right now show what will happen if we escalate straightaway. But we will be prepared to take countermeasures if needed to get the Americans at the table," Dutch Trade Minister Reinette Klever said on Monday, according to Reuters.

Comment:
This is a major breakthrough.
Trump was right again.
The radical left is looking like fools again.

European Union floats ‘zero-for-zero’ tariff resolution to remove industrial fees on US goods:

‘Ready for a good deal’

WASHINGTON — The European Union has floated a “zero-for-zero” tariff resolution with the Trump administration after 20% import levies were imposed by Washington last week.
“We have offered zero-for-zero tariffs for industrial goods as we have successfully done with many other trading partners,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Monday.
“Because Europe is always ready for a good deal. So we keep it on the table,” she said at a press conference alongside Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
“We stand ready to negotiate with the US,” von der Leyen added. “We are also prepared to respond through countermeasures and defend our interests.”
EU Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič, of Slovakia, said the zero-for-zero arrangement would be applied to chemicals, pharmaceuticals, rubber, plastic machinery and cars.
European officials, however, still haven’t ruled out retaliating against Trump’s earlier 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum.
Global stocks have plummeted since Trump’s “Liberation Day” announcement April 2 of the imposition of a 10% baseline global tariff — as well as higher import taxes slated to take effect April 9.

Department of Government Efficiency czar Elon Musk said over the weekend that he was “hopeful” the US and EU would move into “a zero-tariff situation.”
“I hope that the United States and Europe can establish a very close partnership,” said the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, “effectively creating a free-trade zone between Europe and North America.”
That had nearly become a reality during President Barack Obama’s second term but talks broke down after the environmental activist group Greenpeace leaked information, leading to a backlash.
Other issues included discrepancies between regulations on food produced in the US versus Europe.
Negotiations for the so-called Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership ended during Trump’s first term in 2019.

Commentary:
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said this. Is this a “We’ll drop our tariffs if you drop yours” deal?
Isn’t that what Trump wants?

Godwin's "God Bless America"

He picked the right nations to pressure. Snail-eating French President Macaroni ran all over the Eurine Union and yelled, "Surrender! Surrender!"

It's good for us that they think Trump is Hitler. Their FAGA partners in America have picked the wrong image to make the Hole Whirled resist Trump.

EU offers "zero-for-zero" tariffs

Only as long as we are protected from the euros transshipping products that originate in china

As long as the euros are not transshipping made-in-china products to the US

But if trump successfully blocks china from exporting to the US then the Euros are going to need trade barriers with china also

Otherwise china will dump their overcapacity on them

Agreed on your comments.
It'd be sign of recovery and improvement if the left could hold this in their minds, but I suspect, as with so many other facts that don't align with their ideology, that it'll be flushed into the their memory black hole, never to return to their conscious minds ever again, as if it never happened in their reality. <sigh>

This is a good thing, not only for the US, but for the world and its economy.

How about EU tariffs on china?
They have tariffs on China. If we were really playing this game, the EU, NAFTA, and the remainder of Central America would have no internal trade barriers, and 100% tariffs on China.

The EU will need higher tariffs to prevent china from dumping excess production on them
