Emotionally evocative guitar solos

Do any of those truly inspire emotion though? Ive wracked my brain and i can only come up with 1, MAYBE two guitar solos ever that actually hit emotionally.

The first is "Fade to Black" by Metallica. The solo starts off slow and sad, but it builds to a creshendo at the end, signifying the moment that the suicide takes place, then the solo fades out to no sound, signifying his death (aka, the song fades to black). Its one of the greatest solos of all time.

The second, lesser example, is November Rain, but the solo only hits you emotionally if you watch the video and you see the dead wife in the casket.

I REALLY listened to Comfortably Numb and was totally blown away by how both solos were so powerful and fit so perfectly in the flow of the song

Like I said, it’s not a contest or greatest hits, just what does that for you?

Thank you

Allman Brothers

Blue Sky

Duane Allman
Going Down Slow (a USMB poster directed me to this hidden treasure)

I have always hated Pink Floyd, but i did think of them. They certainly qualify (maybe more than any band ever), but i wasnt going to be the one who mentioned them. Thats how much i hate Pink Floyd.

It’s only relatively recently that I finally HEARD what Gilmore achieved on Comfortably Numb and it was just perfection! The mood of both solos fit the shape of the song. It’s not just playing notes in the right key, it’s crafting an emotional melody

The shame is that FM radio plays it to death

I always found their music to be very slow and depressing, and youre right, that shit was overplayed on radio for DECADES! Thats why i developed such a deep seeded hatred for them. I just wanted to hear good, fast paced metal. Instead, the radio was feeding me Pink Floyd lulliby music.

How does a radio DJ go from Guns and Roses Paradise City to Comfortably Numb right after it? That should be an executable offense! :dunno:

Depends on how you define "solo" in the context of a song, off the top of my head:

Led Zeppelin- Since I've Been Loving You.
Led Zeppelin= I'm Gonna Crawl
Led Zeppelin- Achilles Last Stand.
Jimi Hendrix- Voodoo Child (slight return).
Jimi Hendrix- Little Wing
Prince- Purple Rain
GnR- Sweet Child of Mine
AC/DC- Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Funkadelic- Maggot Brain
Beatles- While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Carlos Santana- Black Magic Woman

Have you seen this one? Last century I could belly dance, :DNot this good but I did alright.
