How does it work in the US?

I have heard a lot about two democrat president candidates, Clinton H and Obama. But can they both be supported by the same party? Or has the party nothing to do with presidential elections?

Primary elections happen where the parties elect their candidates, and then the two candidates face off in a general election to see who becomes President.

Okay, so term "President Candidate" is actually sort of wrong? It will be either Obama or Clinton against... whom?
