Edwards Wants Higher Taxes

True.

We should give up all pretense of this being a "Christian" nation and just call it what it is.....an evil, opportunistic, money-grubbing, greed-driven social scam where the wealthy get richer off of the exploitation of the working poor.

Nobody has any social or moral obligation to take care of anyone else.

"Screw the poor....they deserve what they get!"

Social Darwinism should be our national credo right?

Is that what Conservatives stand for?

Again, how much more do you want the producers to pay?

A very small minoirty of taxpayers pay a huge majority of the taxes

Enforced "donations" to the poor are not alms. When the government insists on making you donate, personal donations go down and the cost of "help" goes up as we are adding myriad positions in the government to oversee your enforced donations.

If laws shouldn't be made according to Christianity, such as oh... abortion or gay marriage, then laws for this should also not be made according to the Bible.

Especially considering these types of programs completely contradict the Bible.

You really need to let go of the marxist propaganda and realize that people just want the right to work there butts off and be rewarded. They aren't out there to screw anyone.

I've been searching the New Testament Avatar and I can't find anything in there to support this statement.

Maybe you can help? Which scriptures are you referring to?

All I can find are scriptures telling us about our duty to give all of our excess to the poor.

He suffers from wealth envy

Not at all.

I'm just pointing out that there is a conflict in the Conservative position that our country is a "Christian" nation that was founded on "Christian" principals and the way Conservatives view their right to hoard and amass wealth.

There is nothing Biblical that says a person is "entitled" to wealth. In fact it's just the opposite. The Bible warns us repeatedly about the evils of wealth and tells us that the proper use of wealth is to spread it around to the poor.

This thread is about taxes. I am merely pointing out that when Dems try to raise taxes to fund social programs for the poor they're not that far off from the teachings of Christ. Maybe it's not the government's job to do this.

However Cons don't have any problem using the government to mandate other aspects of religious life like say....prayer in schools or religious monuments in public places, or "right to life" issues.

Could it be that there's a hypocritical double standard at work here?

Could it be that Jesus was a Socialist way back before there was even a word for it?

Yes, You are supposed to give your own money to the poor. You arent supposed to steal other peoples money to give to the poor. That is exactly my point.

There is no Christian ideal that the state should steal money from people. So why on earth should it surprise you that Christians would actually want the right to exercise their religion in public as the Constitution says and not want the state stealing from people.

There is no double standard when people are doing exactly what they believe in both instances.

And no, Jesus was not a socialist in anyway. A fundamental principal of socialism is denying the existance of God. No socialism springs from a completely opposing force.

"Render unto Ceasar what is his....."

Remember that one? It's not stealing Avatar.

BTW you are free to exercise your religion in public all you want as long as you do it quietly so it doesn't offend anyone else.

Not true. Just because some Socialists in the past have been athiests doesn't mean that athiesm is a "fundamental principle" of Socialism.

You should educate yourself at least a little before you make statements like that!

red state,

If less than 1% of income earners, pull in 14% of ALL income earned in the USA, should they be paying only 1% of the country's income taxes, or should they be paying 14% of the country's income taxes?

i believe they should account for the 14% at least! Not 1% of the total bill because they are only 1% of the total income earning people?

so, the top 25% of income earners paying whatever you said....ummmm, i think it was 84% of the total income taxes collected, MEANS NOTHING UNLESS, you also have the figure of HOW much income this top 25% EARNED out of the total income earned here in the USA.....

what IF these 25% of earners made 84% of all of the money earned in this great country of ours?

THEN, these people paying 84% of all income taxes would be FAIR, right? (if they also earned 84% of all income in the usa)

I guess i am trying to say that more info is needed in order to truely ''judge'' the ''fairness'' of your proclaimation regarding this....

And u still very well could be right if it turns out these top 25% of tax payers pay 84% of the taxes while still only earning 25% of the total income in the USA, and THIS would definately be an abuse and unfair imo!

got any links to support the 84% at hand? it might have the other info in it that i believe is necessary before an opinion one way or the other on this point, can be made... btw, you might have posted a link and i missed it!:)

Should Americans Support Media’s Desire for the Rich to get Poorer?
Posted by Noel Sheppard on May 2, 2007 - 17:31.
As the stock market has continued to regularly make new highs in 2007, how many times have you heard or read a media report carping about how the rich are getting richer?

Quite a bit, right?

If you feel bombarded with such inanities, consider that a completely unaudited LexisNexis search of major American media outlets identified 234 reports which included phrases like “rich get richer,” “income inequality,” “wealth disparity,” etc., since January 1.

Add it all up, and that’s almost two a day.

A fine example of this nauseating mantra was demonstrated by CBS’s Charles Osgood on “Sunday Morning” April 15: “Squeezed is what a lot of middle class Americans are these days, running as fast as they can just to keep up financially.”

Another goodie came from the New York Times’ Paul Krugman on April 27 (subscription required, emphasis added): “Income inequality -- which began rising at the same time that modern conservatism began gaining political power -- is now fully back to Gilded Age levels.”

Krugman predictably argued: “You might have thought that in the face of growing inequality, there would have been a move to” – wait for it – “raise taxes on the rich.”

Isn’t that always the answer?

That's the ultimate goal of Republicans- back to the days of serfdom and a sovereign monarchy. Just need to look at our King George -a spoiled little rich kid who never had to work a day in his pathetic life. He as absolutely no idea what it's like for many Americans living paycheck to paycheck. And he doesn't really care.
