Before anyone asks, yes, this is what we voted for.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon said that mass layoffs—nearly 50 percent—are just a first step toward eliminating the Department of Education and returning power to the states and the parents.

Well I hope they have their contact information when they have to unfire them to sort out the mess Biden left behind. They were already understaffed for that task. There are currently 8 million student loan borrowers without a payment plan and in a few months there will be a new wave of graduates with loans who will need to get into one as well.

Republicans are threatened by education
  • K-12 spending has surged, yet test scores remain stagnant.
  • The federal student loan program has ballooned, creating a debt crisis.
  • Catholic and private schools achieve better results while spending far less per student.
Face it, your indoctrination center for the Left is screwed.

Guess what?
90 percent of school spending comes from state and local governments.
They hire teachers
Set the curriculum
Buy books and learning materials

Looks like they are not doing a good job

.

The school district I live in, and to which I pay the greater bulk of my property taxes, does an incredible job of educating children.

There's a movement in local high schools to squash the gender lies.

My money well spent.

.

Dept of Education does not hire teachers, set curriculum, build schools, buy educational equipment.
That is done at the state and local level.

So what do they do then?

Provide Student Loans
Provide aid to low income school districts
Provide assistance to special needs students.
Make sure there is no discrimination

By cutting 50 percent, what gets cut?

Progs are self-impressed by using words like education and then the results are shallow. We have had enough time to realize the Dept. of Education is not that good.
What is not good about them?

Do they provide student loans? Yes
Do they provide financial aid to low income districts? yes
Do they provide assistance to special needs students? yes

So please tell us oh wise one, if the Department of Education is not to educate children, then exactly what does it do of any value or necessity that cannot be done by another department?
See Post 11

Unlike most of the world, the US education system is led by local communities with state oversight and assistance,

Some do a good good job, some not so well

Every State has an Education Department, All the DoE should do is set minimum federal Standards.
The question to ask, that has yet to be answered seriously, is thus:

Did education improve or not after the Education Department was formed?

If education did not improve, why are we pouring all that money into it?

It didn't improve, in fact it got worse

Return it to the states
