In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said he has "identified funds" to ensure the active military gets paid next week, as Congress stalls over negotiations to reopen the federal government.
"I am using my authority, as Commander in Chief, to direct our Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to use all available funds to get our Troops PAID on October 15th. We have identified funds to do this, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS," Trump said.
Active-duty troops risked missing their first full paychecks on Wednesday, October 15.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reposted Trump's social media post on X stating, "President Trump delivers for the troops."
I know that there will be some disagreement with this move. Congress has not authorized this spending on the salaries of the troops.
But they have not authorized ANY spending on anything, period. No essential spending, non-essential spending, discretionary spending, non-discretionary spending, "nice to" spending nor any other level of importance in spending is currently authorized
So, the executive can either take a hard and fast "the law is the law" stance and literally stop all spending, or the executive can spend whatever the executive decides decides to based on whatever criteria it chooses. That executive is currently named President Donald J. Trump.
I informed you thusly in several posts over the last few weeks.
