The Justice Department plans to expand gun-rights protections with a new office in its civil rights division dedicated to enforcing the U.S. constitutional right to bear arms, according to plans shared with Congress and reviewed by Reuters.

The office, called the Second Amendment Rights Section, expects to open on Dec. 4 and will be dedicated to investigating local laws or policies limiting gun rights.

The section intends to execute the broad policy directions from a February executive order issued by President Donald Trump directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to comb the entire U.S. government to "assess any ongoing infringements" of gun rights.

Well to be fair, she created a Second Amendment Task Force within the DOJ to "advance President Trump's pro-gun agenda and protect gun owners from overreach". he DOJ under Bondi has filed briefs in the Supreme Court arguing that restrictive state laws, such as Hawaii's public carry regulations, "plainly violate the Second Amendment".

Bondi has also initiated a process to make it easier for certain individuals with past criminal convictions to have their gun rights restored, and has taken steps to reform the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), including firing the agency's previous general counsel for allegedly targeting gun owners and repealing a "zero tolerance policy" for federal firearms license holders.

As Florida's AG, she was a vocal supporter of Florida's controversial "stand your ground" law, and defended Florida's ban on open carry in court. But then she also defended state laws that implemented a bump stock ban, an age restriction (raising the minimum age for long gun purchases to 21), and "red flag" laws.

So we'll see.

You're right in that it is entirely in keeping with America's cloistered and clueless politicians who enjoy an army of taxpayer funded armed bodyguards to eviscerate what remains of our long persecuted 2nd Amendment.

Rather than fulfill their obligation to defend the entire Bill of Rights, these distant and pampered politicians seem driven to appease America's gaggle of hysterical ninnies who remain intellectually unable to grasp the simple reality that criminals do not obey laws ... ANY laws.

Since no one welcomes the disarming of America's law abiding citizens more than predatory and violent murderers, rapists and sadistic thugs, why not honestly name the next citizen disarming scheme the "Criminal Empowerment Act".
