I dont think so
.

Many years ago. my Catholic sister-in-law believed she could speak in tongues, and decided to display her gift, but what came out was total gibberish.

A few years after that, I learned what a nutball she was. No wonder my brother divorced her.

What this nutball did ….. was insulting the Holy Ghost!

There are those who do speak in tongues and those who interpret it. I am not one of either, nor have I ever met or known anyone that does. But when I was first looking to join a church back in the day, I had called one and the lady asked if I did speak in tongues and I said no, she then said I was not saved if I didn't but then wanted to pray for me 'to be enlightened'. Needless to say, that was not a church for me.

1 Corinthians 12:7-11

7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

At Pentecost the Holy Ghost did the opposite … everybody understood everthing.
That makes more sense to me.
Exactly. During the Pentecost of Acts fame, the disciples would speak in their native language but the Holy Spirit made it possible for people who spoke other languages to understand what the speaker was saying. It has nothing to do with the gibberish that some modern churches try to pass off as "speaking in tongues" when nobody has a clue what's being said.
