Does the GOP have another clown car in the making?

Those who don't remember, the field opposing Donald Trump was dubbed the "Clown Car" by the media, always eager to mock the GOP. Basically, it was Trump against a group of establishment Republicans. The establishment vote was split among them, while Trump got all of the "I've had enough," voters, including a fair amount of working class folk who had never voted before or who had voted Democrat in the past.

Conventional wisdom in 2016 was that if only all but one would drop out, that one could defeat Trump. Never happened.

Here's the lineup so far:

I won't call it a clown care, just yet. It's basically a two-man race that is very lopsided right now in favor of one.

What say you?

Having a large number of candidates helps Trump because almost all GOP primaries are winner-take-all. He gets 28% of the vote but wins 100% of the delegates. Since he can't be Biden (I hope)...this is potentially great news for Biden. Insantis is actually going to help Trump win many states.

Back when the DNC faced the same problem with Bernie (someone who couldn't win in November), someone brokered the DNC Race to consolidate the anti-Bernie votes against him. Biden was the beneficiary with Buttieg (sp?) and Klobuchar dropping out very early in the race. I call it "getting Bernied". Either that will happen to the blob or the GOP will not win the White House in 2024.

As Biden continues to chip away at America's sovereignty, independence, economic strength, and moral integrity, more and more people will vote for ANYONE to make sure the Bumbler isn't re-installed in the next general election. Trump's best friend (politically speaking) is Pedo Joe. Then, with CNN's help, Trump won a ton of support after that corporate backfire. CNN done "effed" up. Tie in Durham's Report that the Russia collusion thing was a made up hoax and coup attempt, and Trump is sitting pretty. Personally, I prefer DeSantis but I'll vote for Trump in the general if it means keeping a Demwit out of office.

If that was the clown car, then the Dim lineup was the highwire act without a net. What a bunch of kooks!

The Democrats' candidate is the dementia-ravaged, compromised head of the proven criminal Biden Crime Cartel who has been proven to be, thanks to the Durham report, a proven Traitor who participated in Barry's failed coup based on Hillary's Hoax....

....and you want to try to insult Republicans?

The only three there who aren't total mutts are Scott, Elder, and Ramaswamy, and Scott is kinda mediocre.

I honestly don't see how DeSaster recovers from yesterday's complete embarrassment.

And against Trump, he'll win.

Again.

I say any one of them is more qualified and has more integrity than the vegetable occupying the Oval Office today.

You may well be right.

This again is a case in which the GOP harms its political chances by having more integrity than the Dems. In 2016, we learned that the DNC and the Clinton campaign were one and the same. No way were they ever going to let Bernie win the nom, no matter how popular his among Democrats.

While many establishment Reps hate Trump with more passion than any Democrats do, they did not stoop to such tactics, and will not again. No matter how many GOP candidates jump out of the car, Trump will be the nominee. Only his death will prevent that. My guess is that is what DeSantis is banking on, given that Trump fits the profile for a sudden death. If that happens, he will have Trump supporters and Never Trump Republicans expressing thanks to the Deity that DeSantis already has a campaign running.

Bernie isn't a democrat...so...

Banking on your opponent dying...so you can get his votes.

The state of the GOP in 2024. Not my words...yours.

Wow.

Yeah, I'm a Trumper not a republican. Trump kicks the bucket I go back to throwing my vote away on the libertarian party and whatever freaking socialist they decide to run next time.

I find that I enjoy thinking about so many of our posting members who insist (for any number of reasons) that Trump couldn’t possibly beat the Potato in a rematch.

I find myself liking DeSantis. But I’m still fine with Trump. I need to learn more about Tim Scott. With maybe a little hemming and hawing, I like Nikki. This new guy Ramaswamy speaks well and I’m liking some of what I hear so far from him.

I can’t say I place a huge amount of confidence in this, but I believe the Potato is ripe for the picking. And while it’s true that Trump does have extra baggage, I think he could take the Potato down.

I’d be happy with any of the others I just mentioned. One thing I know deep in my heart, we have to get rid of this horribly inept divisive Alzheimer victim incumbent.
