Michelle Flournoy took her name out of consideration (Smart Woman!). I guess no ne wants to be Obamas failed foreign policy fall guy.

Obamas Previous two Sec Def's have criticized his incompetence on foreign policy. (No doubt a third to come)

Who the hell would want to be Secretary of Defense with an administration that micromanages the Defense Department, has staffed the White House full of foreign policy incompetents/yes men, and has a President with zero management/foreign policy experience? Obama's entire tenure as President as been nothing but ideologically driven on the job training without a hint of deference toward how the world truly is.

As it turns out he picked a guy who can't run away from Obamas failures: Ashton Carter. Indeed, he's been in the Obama administration too long now to shy away from it. Reports Obama to pick Carter as next Defense secretary . I figured he would choose someone who is already tied into his failures. The question of Carter's future is an easy one: Accept the promotion and be tied to Obamas failures, or, don't accept the promotion and still be tied in to Obamas failures. He therefore might as well accept the promotion as the new fall guy / yes man to Obamas inner circle of foreign policy incompetents.

But I don't think this is an official nomination yet.
