Senate Democrats send DHS counteroffer to Trump as shutdown drags on

The Department of Homeland Security shutdown has caused pileups in airport security lines across the country.

Congressional Democrats sent a new counteroffer to the White House to reopen the Department of Homeland Security, a step that may indicate a thaw in the shutdown of the agency that began Feb. 14.

The shutdown comes as Democrats demand changes to how federal immigration enforcement operates in exchange for releasing the funding after two U.S. citizens were shot and killed by DHS officers in Minneapolis. The Democrats and President Donald Trump’s White House have been trading proposals for over a month but have not yet clinched a deal.

The latest Democratic counteroffer was sent late last night, a person familiar with the negotiations said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the private negotiations. The person declined to detail what’s in the Democrats’ latest volley.

Are they embarassed by the counteroffer? Clearly so. But what are they embarassed about? Is it because the offer is essentially a no further consessions surrender, or is it so wildly out of line that they don't want the American voters to see it?

The Trump administration has already made moves that should have pleased the Democrats. He fired Noem and put in a much more mainstream director, and has Tom Homan, a highly experienced professional in border security in charge of the Minnesota operation. It is hard to imagine what more they could insist on, that would be even close to reasonable.

Are they seriously hoping by holding our airports hostage, they can force a return to Biden-era border and immigration policies? The news is barely covering the TSA airport delays because they know it will make people angry at the tantrum-throwers of Congress. If the GOP were responsible for this shutdown, they'd be running story after story of someone's flight delay causing them not be be able to hear grandma's last words at the nursing home.

Couple of things they're wishing for is no masks worn my ice and warrants. Other than that I don't know what else.

The dems did try to separate TSA and force a vote yesterday. Haven't seen anything since. They just need to drop it and pass it.
