Kamala clearly stated on CNN's town hall that she plans to implement a FEDERAL ban on price gouging, "punishing companies" for high prices on groceries and products. She provided no specifics, but in general does anyone agree that it is a good thing to give the government this kind of power? Have government enforced price controls ever worked anywhere? What do you think?

It's empty rhetoric. It matters none whether you support it or not, it's never happening.

She clearly lacks even a rudimentary grasp of economic theory and monetary policy.

Rising prices are just one single consequence of inflation.

Inflation properly defined as being the expansion of currency and credit.

This devalues the dollar and destroys your purchasing power.

That's why prices go up. The dollar just isn't worth what it was once worth. So you need more of them as they are systematically devalued by way of inflating them.

One would think that at least one ''journalist'' would ask her outright "what is inflation?"

But I haven't heard a single one ask her that question, predictably.

You know she'd stutter and bumblefuck around the question entirely.

A lot of states have anti-gouging statutes for things like fuel when there is a disaster, so I guess it has worked some. As for her proposal, doesn't really matter. The next POTUS will have a divided congress with neither having a 60 seat majority in the Senate so nothing in particular will get done other than trying to keep people in a perpetual state of angst.

Unfairly gouging customers in a time of unexpected emergency is already illegal. You can't sell water for $5.00 per bottle or gas for $20.00 per gallon after a hurricane. Monopolies are prone to gouging. That is what gouging is, and it is a good idea to boost those laws a little. She is not talking about regulating the normal price fluctuation of fair market prices.

Please to cite real world and wide-spread examples.

Good luck with that.

Example. $100 plus barrels of oil. Fundamentals can be exactly the same at $60 a barrel and $100 a barrel.

LOL OK let's hand the government the power to BAN price gouging (whatever that means) and expect the government to over-reach their newfound power. You, me nor anyone else has any idea what she is talking about SPECIFICALLY. What we do know is she wants to give the Federal Government a brand new hammer to bring down on businesses.

First come the price controls disguised as "price gouging protection"......
Next come the "Corruption Police" to root out any and all "Corruption" (aka opposition)

In a perfect world, all those who voted FOR Socialism/Communism should be summarily deported to a remote island and forgotten.

If the Left should manage to take this election, I think we're at the end game. Seriously doubt there would be any elections of any meaning after this. Their ultimate power grab would end any remaining bits of the republic.

Although at this point what remains now is already a bare skeleton of what used to be.
We lost freedom in America after WWII

A new hammer to bring down on unethical businesses.

Very true. The Democrats are dangerously close to having One Party Rule. They already have control of the Media, the Universities, the DOJ and Intelligence Agencies, and the major cities.

It is no worse than 200% and greater tariffs
