Do you think humans live too long, or not long enough?

Think about it.

At this point in human evolution, it takes us about 50+ years of our lives to REALLY figure it all out. Well, as much as we are able.
We spend too much of our teen years being stupid. We spend most of our early adulthood being stupid and working to pay for being stupid.
Then once we get to retirement age, we either end up having to work until we die, or just hang around the house until we die.
And really, by the time we do figure it all out and how to REALLY make things better, its too late......we're worm food.

So......what if humans were able to extend life another 100 years? Would you take it? Would you use all you have learned to become the person you always wanted to be? Or do something exceptional with all those skills and knowledge aquired?
Do you think humans would be better off knowing they can literally spend half of their life figuring it all out before actually getting to LIVE the life you want?

Just a thought.

I plan on living for 1000 years. Just to piss off my wife.

I would prefer it if we only lived to 50 at best while we are still at our peak, living in a cave, cooking by fire, hunting big animals, wearing skins, warring with neighbor tribes for the best women until we finally weaken with age, and get eaten by a saber-toothed cat.

Solves all of humanities problems.

In a 100 years , many people may live to 150 with new ways of slowing down the aging process
They will have all kinds of different ways to slow aging down.

Here's the thing: Retirement is, for working class and middle class people life's REWARD(!). You save up, deprive yourself of nice things while trudging through the years with kids and whatnot, and retirement is when you get paid for your effort, so to speak. I think of it as "endless summer vacation" for old bastards.

But it is not endless. It starts when you retire, and gradually deteriorates until you reach the point when your life is nothing more than the periods between doctor visits and operations (or "procedures," as they like to call them). For most people, you get about ten years to have fun, then it deteriorates to the state of occasional fun, and not much of it.

Every additional year of "life" you get is NOT a year when you are healthy and able to do all the shit you like doing, it is an additional year of doctor visits, dentist visits and procedures. Does anyone look forward to THAT?

I personally will be 75 in a couple of weeks, and I am fighting like hell NOT to have to give up the stuff I like doing. I played 18 holes this morning, and did a 15 mile ride on my new MTB this afternoon. Bowling with the guys tomorrow at noon, and I'm taking the grandkids to a new playground (dinosaur-themed) on Saturday. Doing a long golf mid-week adventure in September, and a road trip to Thunder Bay (Ontario), if the weather looks good the following week.

But I am damned fortunate not to have any debilitating diseases, conditions, or injuries. I don't go to reunions anymore because all those fukkers are old, and just waiting for the Grim Reaper to show up at the door. Fuck that.

Please do not extend life !!
I think 50 is more than enough

Until you reach age fifty.

I am so ready to move on !!

Unfortunately in the future they will be able to use a whole variety of ways to extend life to 150 or so . Then after that they could easily digitally download your brain into a new clone body

To where ?

I do wish we had longer life spans.
I could easily do another hundred years without getting bored as long as I could still do the things I can now.
Now it just feels like the tank is approaching 1/4 full and there's nowhere to fill up.

Except that the things you do now, you might want to do in a hundred years….
