I remember her well

Is that how you managed to create this memorable and riveting topic ?

Incidentally , have you ever heard of Wendy Braless who turned out to be a strip Queen who won the Men's Tennis Championship thirty years running at my local club in Hove , Sussex ,Team GB .
Now that was huge news in the day . As we say .

Since posting on the Boris Becker thread last night, I have had a Wimbledon-flavored dream where, amongst other tennis things, I was having a conversation with Steffi Graf and she was very friendly with me. Don't tell Andre.

Do you remember a Graf-fan who decided he'd take out her best comp. ala Kerrigan/ Harding! While Seles was playing in the German Open in 1993, Gunter Parche went down to the court and stabbed that little girl in the back! People ask, "what is Graf supposed to do?" IMO, it would be the last thing to just go about my business taking advantage of the comp. void! :stir:😕

Steffi Graf was a great player, and enjoyable to watch.

I enjoyed the losses! She had some minor problems dealing w/ little Amanda Coetzer & Mary Pearce! Those were very entertaining matches! Martina pulled a McEnroe/Borg being "even Steven" in the H2H w/ Graf, 9-9, Navratilova beating her 3 of 4 at the USO alone! :p

My favorite match of her's was the epic Wimbledon 1995 Ladies' Final with Steffi Graf vs. Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario.

That deuce game at 5-all in the 3rd. 13 deuces, 32 points, all on the Arantxa serve.

Felt so sorry for Arantxa...so close but just could not get past Steffi at Wimbledon.*

* [Arantxa did beat Steffi at the 1989 French Open (Roland Garros) and the 1994 U.S. Open, but Arantxa never did get the title at Wimbledon]

she comes from my home region, like Boris Becker 👍

What was your feeling about the Seles stabbing? How did the German populus react to such a lenient punishment of Gunther Parche? It hurt the prosecution that Seles refused to return to Germany to testify against him! He got a couple yrs. in the psyche ward! Funny, this reminds me of the Caitlin Clark situation! It was decided that while Seles was recovering from her injury, she should "co-hold" the #1 ranking! The women of the WTA of course didn't like that! Not caring that a child was stabbed in the fk'n back, but they don't want to "protect" her ranking for an extended period! THE #1 player in the world at the time of her assault! WOMEN! :stir::dunno::nono:
