Everybody knows this classic Christmas song right? Well correct me if I'm wrong Christians but isn't the king that's being discussed i the song Herod since he was king at the time of when Jesus was born? So if he wanted Him dead then why would he be saying to the people everywhere that He would bring them goodness and light? I can't think of any other kings at the time, but I think that whoever wrote the song was stoned enough as it is. 😆 Although it is a pretty song though. 😊

By your reckoning, it stands to reason that Herod was being referenced. The song was written in 1962 though and the claim is that it has more to do with the Cuba missile crises than the birth of Christ.

No, the King was the King of the Jews, the King of mankind, the newborn Jesus.
Comedy aside, I think people are reading too deeply into these songs and need to just take and enjoy them at face value.

About as relevant as Bing Crosby's Mela Kalakimaka song. Is it really Hawaiian for Merry Christmas? Don't try to analyze it, just enjoy it.

The king of kings = Jesus.

So then how was the king saying to the people everywhere?

Although Jesus came to Earth as a humble servant, he is the King of kings.

1. Revelation 19:13, 16

He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. . . . On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

2. John 18:36

Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”

3. Isaiah 9:6–7

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

4. Ephesians 1:20–21

. . . that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

5. Daniel 7:13–14

I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him;

his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.

6. Acts 2:30–32

Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses.

7. Revelation 17:14

They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.

8. 1 Timothy 6:13–15

I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

9. Hebrews 1:3–4

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.

10. Revelation 1:5–6

. . . and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

So what does that mean in regards to my question?

A true Christian knows that He was/is King!

Can I get an "Amen!" ?

Yeah Amen but who is the king speaking to the people everywhere about the Christ child is my question.

Why would Herod say that Jesus would bring everybody goodness and light though if he wanted Him dead? Unless it was just a rouse of course.

If you read the Bible, you would know that God was talking to his Son. He was talking about the turmoil he will face in his days on Earth.

(I flunked Sunday School...so, I need to refresh on my Bible studies.)

Ohhh,... In that case why did God leave out the soup and a blanket for the child shivering in the cold? Sorry, I know that I'm being difficult today. Lol :P
