I bought a roll of galvanized hardware cloth, 24" x 50' x 1/4" mesh for about $50. Works great! I cut it into 24" sections, shuck it under the shingles, bend it over the edge of the gutter and screw it down. I have two massive white oak trees in my yard that produce huge amounts of leaves. I used to have to clean the gutters numerous times during the fall. I still have large piles of leaves that collect on the roof itself that I have to clear with the leaf blower. Covering the gutters is a Godsend for me.

If needed I can easily flush any small debris that gets through down with a garden hose.

I like the bigger holes,, makes it easier to spray the small debris out with hose,

I have some of those plastic ones on one side of the house and its almost impossible to spray it our without removing one panel, theyre little diamond cut outs,,

I actually started out with 1/2" mesh on the front of the house three years ago but the small 'pre-acorns' that my oak tree sheds get through. There are so many that I made an opening above the downspout so I can scoop them out by hand. No problem with the rest of the house, just the front. My roof is new so I shouldn't have any problems with the mineral granules shedding off. Also, most of the roof is pretty low pitch so it's easy to flush the gutters out if needed. If needed I can easily remove one of the 24" screen sections and stick a hose into the gutter.

I will update this thread if I have and serious problems.
